See what 50 years will do?

Warren, I’d like to think I’m still a moderate Republican (or maybe a Centrist), but the neo-conservatives who have hijacked the party make me look like a flaming liberal! (I can’t stomach ole Hillary, so I probably won’t be switching parties soon)

I remember well ole Ronny’s wonderful idea of “trickle down” economics…In practice it didn’t work so hot, somewhere along the pipeline to prosperity for everyone somebody got greedy and the trickle stopped at their pocket…At least he was more personable than Shrub!

In my mind the Jury is still out on Shrub…Is he an idiot? A puppet for special interest? Or just summat deluded and really thinks he has all the answers??

Warren - No need to shut up. This is an interesting conversation. Here. Have a scotch. Cheers.

The only comment I want to make is on time-outs for kids. It is interesting that when they become adults, if they misbehave they get a time out, ie. prison. Western societies did away with corporal punishment for adults many years ago.

Your country is, AFAIK, unique in the western world in having a death penalty, but that’s a whole nuther issue.

Mik - I used to like Hilary until she made that stupid comment abvout the 9-11 terrorists coming in from Canada. She claimed the border was too porous. But when she was told that none of them came across the US/Canada border, she said that it nevertheless shows that the Canadian border is a plausible threat. She could have said that she was wrong and that when the two nations work together blah blah blah … and I would have respected her for that. I know it’s just one incident, but it suggests a certain pig-headedness that is not an attractive characteristic in a potential head of state.

I’ve been alive since the Eisenhower years. Each president in my lifespan has had stregths and weaknesses. I think Bush is the stupidest. Dangerously so.

I think of trickle down economics as like a giant buffet where only the rich are given a plate. The theory is that they will pile their plates so high that a few crumbs will spill over. The rest of us get to eat the crumbs. The higher the plate is stacked, the more crumbs we get.

Hilary is going to be a hard pill to swallow…and I’m hoping like hell she doesn’t make it to the top of the pile with the Dems…but…there is absolutely no way I will vote for any Republican. I find them disgustingly vile. As for Bush, he’s a puppet for a shadow government…just as Kinda Sleezy Rice is. Cheney is writing the scripts IMO…and the profits are going to his pocket. Bush is a “Mini Me” idiot…a “Charlie McCarthy”. Tricky Dicky Cheney is the real slimeball and the dangerous one.

I have some thoughts for “trickle down economy”. It’s what’s trickling down…on us peons…we’re getting P’d on. As you stated, what makes that theory not work is the fact that humans are greedy. For that reason there is never enough for the bottom man. I personally don’t think either party in it’s present incarnation is capable of governing this country in a manner that’s favorable for the working class…lower middle class on down.

Kevin, personally I think a little corporal punishment for adults would be far better towards curbing petty crime than the revolving door 3 hots and a cot judicial system we currently have. Might save us a heck of a lot of tax dollars too.

Hilary isn’t pig headed, neither is Shrub…pigs be intellligent, sensitive animals :stuck_out_tongue:

Politicians mostly just be opposite sides of the same bad penny :frowning:

That's the reason behind the impeachment attempt.

It’ll become nothing more than another smoke screen and diversion to keep congress from addressing the issues they really need to deal with. There’s a lot more there that’s a lame duck than just Bush.

If you get a chance, watch “DC 9/11: Time of Crisis”. You’ll change your mind about Bush. Apparently he’s thoughtful, intelligent, idealistic and decisive.

Timothy Bottoms does a great impression of Bush. I suspect Dub-Ya was the ressurection of Timothy’s career.

Rumsfeld scared me too. Rice just leaves me puzzled. In fact, Colin Powell is the only one that I haven’t formed an opinion on.

Up here in Canada we have Stephen Harper and, before him, Paul Martin - two of the most boring politicians imaginable. Indeed, I miss Jean Cretien. He was very … entertaining.

Or maybe I could just resurrect this thread.
