Season Change

Fall fell officially here in beautiful downtown Deer Park on August 25, just 8 days ago. I was hoping it was just temporary unseasonable cool weather that I could blame on Global Warming  , but sadly it is not. That subtle crisp feeling and smell that accompanies fall falling is here to stay. Even the leaves on the maple tree are just starting to turn.

I have to get serious about finishing the line from Wenatchee to Leavenworth, or there will be some cold and hungry folks up there this winter.

I thought the same here as well. We had a cool aug, temps in the 40’s at night 60-70 day time temps. Some of the sugar maples ect… are changing. Long range forcast show part of Sept warm with a tropical strom for the weekend. Would never thought this with the way our last few weeks were. You may get back to some warm days you never know.

Fall isn’t here yet in SE PA, but it’s getting close. The days are still warm, mid to upper 80’s. like today, but it cools off nicely after dinner. I think I’ve run the A/C at the most 2 weeks the whole summer, which is fine with me. This time of year we live out on the back porch…

If the days weren’t getting shorter I’d say I welcome it. August here was unseasonably cool, but wonderful. Low humidity most days. Our A/C in the living room died over the winter and I didn’t replace it. We managed to get through the summer without it, using only an exhaust fan. I only ran the bedroom A/C two night in the last month. I so much prefer to have the windows open for the sounds and smells. That’s usually not a good idea in Southern New England with the heat and humidity of a normal August.

I bought a window mount A/C for the bedroom of a house we lived in a few hundred feet lower that our present home. We needed it there most of the summer.

We haven’t even unpacked it, here. SWMBO says we should put it on Evil Bay, but with Global Warming coming…

Storms out of the gulf are bringing rain, so the hard top and doors were put on the jeep today. Truely the mark of a season change.

Are there others out there sorry to see summer end & winter to come sooner than most of us want because you had plans in spring to get some things done on the railroad or to take some kind of railfan trip that you didn’t accomplish? I can’t believe summer is over, although I enjoy the cooler temps of Fall as well as the nice colors, I don’t enjoy the falling of leaves because the tracks and figures get covered up and the bare trees means winter is around the corner! Although i did get quite a bit done on the railroad this year it wasn’t as much as I had hoped to get done.

I’m a warm weather kind of guy. I’m always a little sad when the children go back to school(and college) and the summer is over.
Spring and Fall are very nice here…great train weather.
The short days in the Winter I really don’t like.

41 here in Nebraska this morning. I need 2-3 more weeks without a frost to get my peach tree ripened. jerry

Having lived in So. Cal most of my life, I’m of the opinion that seasonal climates are a nice place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there.

Well, having lived in Rancho San Diego for 12 years, I can appreciate your sentiment. That said, there is still no place like home. World class skiing is only 45 minutes from my front door the the lift line. :D

Besides, I can always plow the snow off the tracks and run the trains in a winter wonderland.

Well when the kids were younger I sure wasn't sad about the kids going back to school, but I am sad about fall and winter being just around the corner. Having worked outside in the elements for most of my life I do appreciate the warmer weather. And If I never saw snow again it wouldn't bother me a bit.................;)
