Great work, Ron! I can just see them now, lettered for ‘Foley Fast Freight Forwarding’…
More please.

Those look good, Ron. With opening doors, yet, I’m guessing.
What are you using for siding?
Those off the GR plans Ron? Great looking cars
Bruce, yes the doors open. The cars are build with 1/8 inch Baltic Birch plywood. The siding lines are scribed in by hand with a tool that I made and a square. Time consuming, but works.
David, the basic outline is from GR plan # 57 with some adjustments made to make them conform more (but not exactly) to a D&RGW class 8 car as described in the book ‘A Century and Ten of D&RGW Narrow Guage Freight Cars’
NIce work, Ron. I’m still intrigued by your layout and track work. Please go in to some detail when you have a chance.
VERY nice!
Ron,
They look great. Could you please post some dimensions.
Dave
Very fine looking cars Ron. Nice job! Hope you’ll post photos when they’re lettered also.
Dave,
The cars are 17 5/8" long by 4 1/2" wide by 6" from railhead to top of running boards. In 1:20.3 this scales out to 29’7" x 7’5" x 10’5", which is slightly shorter and narrower , and slightly taller than a D&RGW class 8 car. They were never intended to be an exact scale model, only closer to scale than the other Bachmann (big hauler) boxcars that I have, which look very small behind my K27.
Richard,
I will post some pics when they are lettered.
Ron,
Thanks for posting the dimensions. Your rationale for them matches my intent. Can’t wait to see them lettered up and trailing behind the K27.

Hi Ron,
Nice work on the box cars. Do you plan on weathering them at all??
Chuckger
Hi Chuck
Thanks for the compliment. I probably won’t weather them at all. For me, it’s more about the creating than the operating. But you never know what will strike my fancy. I certainly admire the weathering that some of you have done. There are some very talented people on this forum.
thats true…and you’ve just earned a place among them Sir!
