When I as modeling 1:48 aircraft, I took an engine from a Catalina and made a latex mold from it. I cast some engines for a scratch-build project that I never finished. I had never considered the legalities of what I was doing, because, if I had finished the model I was making, no one was going to see it but me, and whoever came to my house.
David,
Considering the commercial knock-offs, that sell in great quantities, they won’t come after the hobby builder/copier.
All of this has been going on for a long time and the copied parts are even distributed within groups of friends on a sharing basis i.e. You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours - everyone does some and no free-loaders.
So Mike, by your own admission in your post, recasting a purchased part for your own use is legal. So what was the purpose of your post other rhan to inflame an otherwise quite pleasant threaf?
Bob , first , what’s a threaf ?
Second , are you not doing the same thing you accuse me of?
Mike
I just asked a question, I didn’t attack someones methods of accomplishing a task.
Sorry for the fumble fingers, I will be more careful with my spell checking.
OK Bob , I take your point .
I do not normally pick up on peoples’ spelling/typo errors , except in jest . Sorry if you got the wrong impression .

Bob,
I wouldn’t worry about it, the sun will still rise tomorrow.
In more enlightened times they burned weather forecasters as witches .

excellent ditch light castings! I would be interested in purchasing some provided they did not infringe on any intellectual property laws
