Large Scale Central

Scale converter

I bought a scale converter about a month ago and just started going through it this morning.
It works with windows vista and is GREAT if anyone wants to know more about it I can reply with who made it I’m not sure if I can list it on the fourm with out getting in trouble.
If I can then let me know and I’ll fill in all the blanks, that is all you have to do with this program.

                                                                                                    Smokebox

Hey Rob,

If I remember correctly as long as it isn’t your product there’s no harm mentioning the source.

Would it be http://www.stanstrains.com/SoftwareHandyConverter.htm ??

Then of course is the webpage here:

Oh, good heavens, just drag out your slide rule and use that!

Mine is in a glass case marked, “In case of power failure, break glass.”

Yep, it is Stan Silverman’s.

Have any of you guys took a well made model and scaled it up? I'm thinking of making a few modern cars for my line for the someday railway.
Could I get sued for doing that?? Making a model of a model???

                                                               smokebox

Rob,

Everybody does it.

Or I should say it isn’t a bad idea to use the measurements from a well executed model and use it as the dimensional basis for another model.
But you have to be very careful since not all “models” are models, could be quite embarrassing to copy the faults in someone’s “model”. But it has happened.

Best plan: enough info to check against the 1:1 item.

Soooooooooooo, how did you get a slide rule inside a bottle of booze?:stuck_out_tongue:

Bob,

I went to the link you posted and that is on the cd also but there is much much more on the cd, tells you how fast your trains are running, any scale to any other one, 1-1 to any other also. on the lumber one it tells you how big a scale 1x4 is in inch, mils, such and so on.
As long as my lap top does not die I think I'm covered for converting!!
I have the math conversion somewhere but this is so fast you could not write out the information before this has it all done for you.

                                                                                                             Smokebox

If you are making a model for your own use that is an exact copy of something you have purchased there is nothing illegal about that. It is only a problem if you make them for re-sale or sell blueprints for someone else to copy them. The same thing goes for copying trademark logo’s. You can decorate any model with trademarks such as the McDonald arches and there is no problem as long as you are doing it for your own use and not selling or marketing them in any way. So go ahead and copy to your hearts content.
