Sawmill for Micro

I started this in the Micro section but Ill post it in the modeling for now.
Today I scrounged through my wood bin and started building the Sawmill. I have the basic frame done. Going to use my Bachmann steam donkey for inside, perfect fit. Now I have to cut some siding and make the details for inside. Nothing fancy since I will close part of it off. Space is limited so I have to keep everything compact. I didn’t use any plans other then putting a bunch of sticks together until I formed something I was happy with lol…

I made more progress on the Sawmill. Got the siding up and the footings for the bottom. Starting to look like something.

Next step is roof some details and weathering.

I like it! I have pondered for a while building a micro or pizza layout, and this would be right up my alley. I will be watching with great interest!

Purty Neet!..

Sweet

Nice job Shawn

What overall size is it?

Is the sawmill hiring?

If so I’m looking

Dave the Sawmill is 19x6 inches and the attached building is 5x6 inches. The one I will make for the outdoor layout will be larger.

Rooster Im still hiring for a weathervane.

One of these?

Not the Sawmill. The whole table! The entirey. All of it. The whole enchilada.

How Micro is this thing?

Dave the layout is 65x40 inches. 31dia curves. To make it lighter I would use that blue styrofoam stuff you get at Lowes. I was going to use that but then thought, with live steam, might not be the best idea. My plan is to put handles on the side for carrying and use a folding table to put it on. Weight wise its not too bad.

Shawn, Check with the “Module” guys. They have some pretty neat Ideas for simple “fold under Legs”

I’ve built a number of them for “Ntrack” modules. That way you don’t have to lug that folding table around. Adds maybe 2-3 lb. to the whole thing, and set up takes 2-3 min.

Thanks Dave, Ill take a look. Would be faster set up.

More progress made on the Sawmill. Got the roof up and started working on the inside some. Im not going all out on the inside mainly because most of it wont be seen. Just the basics concept. Still needs some heavy weathering.

I used a Lionel flat car for the carriage and some tin plate track nailed to the floor.

Are you able to get into the siding with the small hopper if your engine has a that log load on the front of it? Or do you have to drop the log load on the main, then pick up the hopper? Just Curious…

Pretty nifty looking, Shawn. Now you just need a tiny one of these for power:

Looking good Shawn.

Thanks Guys.

Ken the log car has to be dropped on the main in order to get the hopper. Bruce I have a Bachmann steam donkey inside for now. Eventually I want to build a small traction engine.

Nice work Shawn,

Looks good

Nice work Shawn. like the use of the Lionel flat
