If any of you guys in LA want to see a vinatge Santa Fe railroad station get moved, then get on down to Long Beach after 10 p.m. tonite (Wednesday) to see it make quite a long journey from its original site in west Long Beach to a park near the corner of Willow and Atlantic. Should be interesting, if ya wanta stay up that late–or get up that early, which is 5 a.m. Thursday when the movers expect to complete the task.
If you missed the big move, you’re not alone. The city and the preservation folks decided they’d better check their clearance measurments (measure twice, don’t scrape the underside of an underpass) so they postponed the big move for a week–i.e. to Wednesday Feb. 5. FYI, the station in question is one of only three such Mission style stations in the LA area.
