Is that a shotgun wedding John ?

Hey John,

Do they still keep 3751 at the old Kaisar steel mill in Fontana? I remember going to see it while it was being restored. Nice pictures.

She’s kept at the old Redondo roundhouse site in LA. The roundhouse is gone but the tracks and turntable are still there. The loco is covered in a wrap when not in use.

Matt, yes out of period but they looked better than a bunch of 350 pound railfans covered in pins!

For the first few years, my wife only saw that type of railfan… she wanted me to get out of the hobby. Figured I’d gain weight!

Geeze! Maybe The Biggest Loser show needs to start a railfan edition. We could have Team Steam vs. Team Diesel. Since Team Steam would be required to shovel lotsa’ coal (no automatic stokers allowed - or oil or gas fuel), they would have a definite advantage. Think about it. How many fat firemen have you seen on hand-bailed steamers? (Now somebody will be sure to post a photo of some hand-bailed teakettle with a morbidly obese fireman!)

Of course, Team Diesel would be required to walk back to any car that required coupling or uncoupling, and to carry replacement knuckles to any knuckle break site (modern knuckles weigh at least 90 pounds) - just to even things out!

Hey, in the meantime, have fun,
David Meashey
