Large Scale Central

Sandy River & Rangely Lakes #24 in Wales

Well, almost.

For those of you who may ever have wondered what the little Sandy River #24 prairie loco may have looked and sounded like as a Pacific, please don’t overlook the fully-restored BLW #2 working on the Brecon Mountain Railway down in SE Wales.

Youtube has a few clips, verging from reasonable, to excellent…even got a caboose as well. The only difference is that here they use British chopper-lump couplingss, rather than the usual knuckles.

This one is one of the better ones - hear that lonesome whistle blow and listen to that chuff!!

Heartwarming stuff, though, to see this little ltwo-foot gauge loco operating for real, in colour!

Cool

Terry, this south African loco was meant for scrap, but now it is one of the most beautifully restored locomotives I have seen. What is even more interesting is that at the workshop in Pant they are working on replicas of two SR&RL locomotives, #10 Forney and #23 Prairie. Best wishes, Zubi

Beautiful!!

Thanks for that, Zubi - makes a visit down and over there even more attractive now. I'll take a load of pix, as usual.

Best wishes

What a great two foot gauge line. Great prototype for those wanting to run Euro and Maine trains on the same line.

PS another interesting thing about this line is that it was originally a standard gauge line. I wish more old unused roadbed would be converted to two feet lines with working steam!!! Zubi
