Took my son on a trip into the city today and we hit the Lurgan Branch (old Reading line). It runs from Harrisburg,PA to Hagerstown M.D. and plays a part on the now owned Norfolk Southern line. They have a decent sized intermodel facility in Harrisburg called “Rutherford Yard” or terminal so we ended up checking it out today. I know I’m out of the norm here with modern diesels but this is an important part of the N.S. operation’s and thought I would share some shots.

Zach and I were in places we shouldn’t have been , I sorta know the area and it’s quite protected with chain link fence but we did hear these guys(rig in the center forward) barking about something…#$%^**^%^… yeah well $&%^())(%##%^
Zach looked at me and smiled , I said “he’s not very happy about something”… Zach said " I can tell" and we moved on! All and all a good day but too short.

Gonna head back as it was the first time I ever really molested that facility. Great stuff and gonna try and hit some other sites in the hood real soon. Everyone hits the Enola yards (west bank of the river) and Rockville Bridge but I have found a lot over in the city, just gotta go where nobody wants too like Ralph said. :)

I really enjoy the Railfanning. I’ve gone pretty deep into some of the yards. So far I’ve never had a problem with the RR security. They have talked to me before, but have never asked me to leave. Generally, I think if your being respectful and not acting foolish, they don’t mind you taking pictures.
