Large Scale Central

Running at Fairplex

Large Scale Central is on the list to run at the Southwest Garden Railroad Show at Fairplex, CA, on Nov. 6, 2011.

I’ve been having trouble confirming that date because a change in coordinator of the layout is under way. Hopefully I’ll have more information this week.

It is a great opportunity to run at Fairplex, a huge outdoor layout that was originally built in the 1920s.

Awesome! Thanks for setting this up. Any idea how many LSCers are in the area to run?

Cool. Wish I was in California.

There are some but I think most of them are already running with Large Scale Online which is running on Saturday. But you never know…

Doug,

I believe it’s MLS that’s running on Saturday. I will be running on Saturday morning, the 5th of November. You could contact Stan Cedarleaf by e-mail and he will probably have the info you need.

Thanks Gary, you are right!

Shoot…John and I are going Saturday. Running the Darth Vader would be a kick in the pants. I only get about 15 minutes a battery charge. Ducted Fan draws AMPS!

I got our confirmation Friday night for running trains at Fairplex during the Southwest Garden Railroad Show.

We are scheduled to run on Sunday (MLS is Saturday). Here is the note I got.

We will be setting up each morning at about 8 AM and we usually need about an hour or so to clean tracks and get all systems up and running.

Your club members should arrive at about 9 AM and enter the fairgrounds off McKinley Ave. They should park as directed by Security- they may or may not be able to drive up and drop off trains at the Garden Railroad. It might be advisable for your members to bring a cart to help bring their trains on to the fairgrounds. Often, Security does not allow visitors on to the grounds after the show opens, which in this case is 9 AM. You may park outside gate 1 and walk in- security can direct you to the Garden Railroad, a short walk from the entrance gate.

For a map and directions to Fairplex, go to :

If you have a list of members who will be participating, that would be helpful.

So it would really be helpful if you could let me know you’re coming so I can send them a list. I also have this note on General Discussion.

Doug,

Because of the rain yesterday, did any LSC folks show up to run? The weather seemed to improve around noon.

I hope the Fairplex layout didnt get damaged by the T-storm that came thru Pomona after the show was over, as I was leaving the Fairplex just after 5pm when it got hit with a storm that would make any midwesterner proud, massive lightning, pummeling rain and hail hail hail, there was 3 full inches of hail of the 210 freeway at San Dimas. Sheesh what a drive home!

We stopped and ate and that storm was just behind us as we headed back to the desert.

Two of us got to run. I’ll post pictures in a little while after Victor gets to look at his layout that was at the show!

Yeah, that storm was pretty strong considering it’s early in the year for these. Glad to hear some of you got to run. I was a little concerned about you guys when I saw how dark and rainy it was here in Burbank on Sunday morning.

It was a beautiful day on Saturday when we ran. I ran my Accucraft C-19 “light” because I was having battery problems (my charger gave out Friday night). But a friend of mine had a new Airwire T5000 throttle he was beta-testing and ran my loco with it. Big improvement! I went into the hall and put my order in for one from Jonathan AND bought a mew smart charger at the sane time!

I will post these two pictures while Victor looks at his. The first is a “shakedown” run of the new bashed trolley. It’s not done but it runs!

The second one is Art Sylvester’s train passing another freight on the layout.

Lookin’ good Doug. Here’s my Accucraft C19 running light trying to figure out battery problems!

Nice. I know that whenever I have a battery problem I just take it to Jon!

Doug - You know I had to get in the show right at 0900 sharp. scored a couple of things, I think we need to make the trip to york thou.

But we would probably get goosed by a Rooster!

Doug the steam dummy looks good. Should have brought it in to test on the pizza. Looks like it would make the tunnel clearances.

I would have but I left it running on the Fairplex layout. Now I have to build a steam engine and design a place for the operator, put a bell on it, etc. etc.

Cool…I love shake down runs!
Trolley ran at the Fairplex baby!
Sweet
