Rotating Lighthouse Light

David Bodnar designed this lighthouse circuit that gives the illusion of the light rotating with just one halogen bulb. The voltage to the bulb gradually comes on, then real bright, then gradually fades. I thought it was pretty neat and like it a lot. SHORT video of it.

That is REALLY cool! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Thanks for posting the video, Jerry - as coincidence would have it I was doing a similar video last night — I revised the circuit and software to give a very realistic lighthouse effect using a 24 LED lighting module.

More information on the changes are here:

It is good to hear that you are enjoying the lighthouse!

I am enjoying it David. I think the Halogen one is a little warmer in color.

It is, Jerry - I also have warm white (very close in color to incandescent bulbs) LED modules on order -

The bright white vs warm white is a personal choice - some lighthouses used arc lights that were closer to bright white LEDs, some used various fuels that gave more of a warm white color.

thanks

dave

Last week I purchased a lighthouse from Menards, that has an actual rotating beacon. It’s solar powered. The beacon rotates all the time, but the LED only lights up after dark.

Ben, we bought 2 of them from Menards here… Different outside structures… One is brick walled, and the other is like all stucco/cement walled…

I bought two over the last three years. I bought them at Christmas tree shop. cost about 40.00 very nice quality.

Well, here in the wilds of Nebraska we don’t see stuff like that, so I fixed up the one I had. Happy with how it worked out and it cost less than those.
