# Rotaries: Avalanche on the Mountain### Upcoming Broadcasts:

Duration: 56:19 STEREO TVG

A winter storm buries the Sierra Nevada. Embedded in the blizzard: the main line of America’s railroad. For two days the major west-east route across America is shut down by snow, tying up billions of dollars of goods, trapping an entire train crew in an avalanche. A vision from the past is sent to rescue modern day transportation. The Rotary Snow Plow, invented in the 1800s, roars to life and heads up some of the steepest mountain terrain in the world. Its mission: save the crew and re-open the rail line over Donner Pass. Men and machines vie with the mountains and elements, a true story of survival.

Spent a few years around the Roseville Yard, when I was stationed at Travis, AFB back in 86-91… Always had their snow equipment stored there during the summer months… Course, back then, It was all Southern pacific equipment…

Great video…Thanks for sharing…

Pretty neat, appreciate you bringing it up so we could watch it.

Great video, it’s sad to think that just 2 years removed and California is having a drought with very little snow and cutting off water supplies to farmers and cities.

Loved it. Thanks for sharing

Ditto - Watched it on the big TV / big stereo via Roku. Love the deep rumble of those F7B’s!!

Is this the same program they are running on PBS? Also seems odd that this full length copyrighted video is on Youtube. Probably haven’t gotten a complaint yet.

Well, they got a complaint! It’s not on youtube anymore. Glad I got to see it! Actually, some of my conductor students had watched it on PBS, so we watched it again in class!

Of course this film had me searching for snow plowing vids, there are a lot of them. Ran across the full length Pentrex film of the 1991 Rotary OY run on the C&T (which I have on VHS). Some nut job left the opening Pentrex logo in place but trimmed off all the end credits, put his own picture and credits on the end. That’s just wrong! Think I may send the link to Pentrex.

I would check your local PBS listings since the Youtube video is no longer available.

You should! Might be helpful to flag it on Youtube too.

@Ray - I emailed Pentrex. Tried the flag thing but that is only valid if it is your video. I didn’t think any of the other flags fit.

He even spelled ROTARY incorrectly! What a dork.
