So as the topic states here I am at 10,000 posts!
Before we go to “How it Happened” I would like to state “Large Scale Central” is “the best” model train website I have ever joined!
Wait?? … this is the only model train site I ever joined! I did surf my share of trainPORN though (not gonna lie to ya’) and I still do. I love taking pictures , uploading/downloading and sharing it with friends. Honestly I’m into modern train porn not the vintage black and white stuff with johnson bars, tri cocks, blowoff valves, ashpans and boilers.
It is my understanding that LSC was started by a couple of guys in a hotel room. What those guys were doing in that hotel room is none of my business but at least we all got this wonderful train site from it.
“Back in the day in the hood” there were lots of model train sites out there flourishing with knowledge! Some of the knowledge I read was good however a lot was “do it my way because this is how it’s done” without alternatives. I don’t like not having alternatives.
On top of that, the manufacturer flaming on what they should have done and why their product sucks. “Well hello” …the manufactures are the reason we have this hobby. You purchased the stuff because you “wanted it” not because you had to buy it .
LSC did not have that attitude. It was a group of guys that loved to share their hobby and had an open door for newcomers eager to share. Not an open door for fresh blood to put their fangs into. The LSC crew accepted me even though most of them were into steam era modeling. Andy Clarke and myself were really about the only ones into modern equipment at the time so I forced him to adopt me as Dad! In fact the crew here even gave me my very first nickname ROOSTER! I felt privileged to be given a nick name and fit in with the other nick names such as Tiny, Friar Fred or Padre. Then came others like Hollywood,Benevolent Dictator and Boomer. Nickname or not we all knew who they were.
Now as for how I reached 10,000 posts. Well I’m just a post whore! I prefer to respond to everyone with blank replies, stupid emcotions and dumb links. Further more when someone posts “Shut Up Rooster” it’s not polite to respond with anything other than a blank post. By no means did I reach 10,000 posts because I have been here sharing knowledge on LSC for a long time. Commenting or praising others achievements and builds. Nor did my numerous and many times lengthy build threads (shared only on LSC) with LOTS of progress pictures equate into the factor either.
“Back in the day in the LSC hood” 90% (or higher) of the threads I started showed build progress. Many of the newcomers to LSC probably won’t know this because I have not had time to build recently as life got in the way. I didn’t just talk or dream about it, I dug in and did it. I shared my trials and errors my fails and finds along the way. I worked with new materials and thought outside the box. When I made progress good or bad I would share my discoverys with the crew here. So perhaps that helped me get to 10,000 posts?
Even though I tried to spell correctly, use proper punctuation and paragraphs they didn’t care. All they cared about was reading or looking at pictures of the models. They would give insight or possible ideas when I reached a hurdle. By no means did they say “well you should do it this way” why? because they couldn’t as it had never been done before. Even if it had been done it was understood there were other ways to accomplish what one was after and it was acceptable.
In final thoughts I hope LSC continues on as the fantastic site it always has been. I will continue to support it in my own way as I always have. For those that only know me over the internet I’m the same in person as I don’t try to be someone I’m not behind a keyboard. I could care less about post count, reputation or the rest of that crap. When I log into LSC I only care about sharing railroading and modeling railroading in a relaxed atmosphere with a bit of humor and most of all friendship!
Sincerely,
Rooster!
