Roof building tips

I am building the Colorado Model Structures kits which are going together nicely except for one challenge.

I have the crossing tower and water tower and both have hip roofs. I tried putting one together yesterday with no luck. How are you getting the angles correct and supporting the roof sectionsafter gluing?

If your roof pitch is 6" rise for 12" run or for a 45 degree roof angle which is 12" to 12" then the hip angle is either 6/17 or 12/17 the end roof pitch should be the same as the face and rear roof angles.

Usually.

Yes, usually the roof tips.

Yeah, but which way does it tip? …and how much? 15% of the total bill?

What I did was use painters tape and taped the parts togather to hold them why the glue dried. Once the roof was dry and in good shape I put a bead of glue around the top of the crossing tower and placed the roof on it. So far everthing has help up great. It blew over in a storm and the roof held on. hope this helps.

Doug, George,

Just saw this post!! cool! Will we get to see pics of the build?

I should have the crossing tower and another building ready for the layout early next week. I should have pictures.

Thanks Doug, Did colorado models promptly?

I think they are and he does a nice job on them. I got to meet him at the Fairplex show last month and had a nice visit. One of the buildings I’m working on is an 1800s shop that he had at the show. It wasn’t even on the website last I looked.
