Very nicely done. An interesting model, well constructed.

Really neat!
Looking good. There is something appealing about all that clean wood tacked together. It will be a shame to paint it up. Now that you have your sheep car you will need to build double decker loading ramp.
Thanks for the compliments guys
Yes Todd, a double deck loading ramp is now in the future, and guess I probably should get some sheep too. LOL
Ron
Great looking car Ron, I really like the idea’s you come up with. I can’t wait to have my shoulder all healed-up after surgery so I can start making sawdust again. I might have to have you bring me down some of that nice Spruce when you come in Feb.
Chuck
this looks very promising.
another first place in the make?
(i’m glad, i do not participate this year…)
Watching your build with interest, Ron - It’s shaping up very nicely! I stole your idea for doing the floor in balsa for my own build - I really thought I’d never use my decades-old balsawood supply again, but it worked out fine, especially with the scribing done nice and wide for large scale with a hacksaw blade. That was good!
I also like your NBW’s. I’ve been thinking of casting my own for this project, but I might copy you again on this, if and when I get that far! Did you use a hole punch on your styrene?
Beautiful neat workmanship! That’ll be a great little car.
Very Nice Ron!!! Look forward to the end result!
Thanks for the compliments
John, have used both the scribed balsa wood a well as individual cut board. Generally use the scribed balsa on cars that won’t be exposed to weather such as boxcars and cattle cars. Also I try to use the hardest balsa I can find.
The NBW’s are made with a punch. A 3/16 for the nut and a 1/4 for the washer. I then drill both with a 3/64 drill and use a piece of 22 guage flower wrap wire. The 3/16 is punched out of .080 styrene and the 1/4 out of .020. After they are glued together just trim the smaller to a square shape with an x-acto knife. I could post some detailed pics of the process if you like.
Ron
I’d like to see your procedure, Ron.
Short post to make sure got the pic posting thing figured out. Seems to have changed
Got the body glued down to the deck.

That seems to be working so onward.
First, making the hangers for the doors. Start with a piece of 3/64 wire, bend a right angle and insert it throught the door and glue to the front of the door.
Then bend it around a piece of 1/16 rod

Then trimmed off the excess so it doesn’t interfere with the movement of the door
(http://i846.photobucket.com/albums/ab29/trainman57/challenge%202013/DSCN4054_zpsd13f2fa2.jpg)
Then made a rod for the door to slide one, bend the ends at right angles and insert in holes drilled in the top beam

Some door guides for the bottom and a stop for the side

Then on to making the roof. 1/16 basswood, scribed to give the individual board look.

Here is the finished roof with the blocking for the roof walk in place. Need to paint this before putting on the walk inself.
Also got the brake wheel and uncoupler levers installed. This is the A end

Thats it for now.
Enjoy, Ron
Very nice. The door hanging was nicely done and very innovative. Thanks for the ideas.
Tom

Thank you for the chance to participate. And to all those who took part, beginners to experts, congratulations on projects well done. The many ideas here are inspiring.
Ron
WOW!!! WOW! Great Job… Again I’ll say it… I’m glade i’m not on the car side of this years challenge!
Very Impressive Ron!!! Looks like a winner!
Great looking car Ron!!! Now put a couple of sheep inside and bring it down to the meeting in February. for “Show and Brag”.
Chuck
Ron that’s a great looking build, also you don’t see many sheep cars as well.
@ Chuck, if Ron puts sheep in the car it’s gonna get stopped at the border for inspection and quarantine by the DOA.
Very nice build. A very unique prototype also.
Tom
Chuck, I will bring it down if Feb.
Chuck and Randy, tried to find some sheep, unfortunately there is only one store here that has anything like that and wouldn’t you know, no sheep.
Ron
