Ron's Build Challenge 2014

Ron Spencer said:

Was wondering if anyone has cut out the window in the door, and how you did it?

Ron

Yes, I did cut out the window opening in the door. I used a Dremel tool with a cutting disc. Very hard material. I finished the opening with a file and made a wooden frame for the window glazing.

Tom

Thanks Tom

I tried drilling the door to gauge the hardness and found it to be quite soft. So I used my old Dremel scroll saw and found that it cut quite easily so the window is now open.

Got the shakes finished on the roof, now just needs the ridge cap, once the silicone holding the shakes on dries fully.

Here is the door with the windows and mullions.

And the finished door. The green is masking tape and will be removed after the door is painted.

Also got the trim on the windows and doors.

And a couple of the concete pad that I made to support the posts and gas pump

Thats it for now, enjoy

Ron that looks awsome

That looks so good and is a nice representation of your starting inspiration photo.

Without the pumps it reminds me of ranger station check in at a national park.

Looking good.

Got a little bit more done. Installing the metal flashing on the ridgeline of the roof.

Lots of tape to hold it down while the silicone dries.

After the tape is removed.

Also got the windows painted and set in place.

Next is a bit of interior detailing.

Ron

Looking very nice Ron. I like the shake shingle roof…

Great looking project Ron. If I am that way I will get some gas. lol

I love the way you did the building. Gives it a nice rustic look.

That looks great Ron. Is that going to be February’s raffle prize at the club meeting? LOL

Ron, nice job on the roof. it really makes it come together.

NOOOOO! I don’t think so Chuck.

Great looking structure Ron.

Finally got a little more done. Needed a counter for inside so here is the plan:

Started with a solid block for the base, 1/8 ply for the ends and 1/16 basswood for the face frames and trim

The finished counter complete with a glass top and front.

And it needed a source of heat, so thought a good old fashioned barrel stove might be just the ticket.

Still need to paint the stove and finish a few more details.

Ron

Got the ceiling on.

Thats it for pics until the final reveal.

Nice detail parts!
