Rolling Stock Trade for Batteries

Here is a link to some stock I have available to trade/sell.

I am in need of batteries for loco conversions and am without the wherewithall to procure same.

After smoking a pack of NiMh due to bad cells I’d like to try single cells. Preference is for AA as they can be fit into a current project loco. However I need batteries for about 6 locos total so will consider packs as well.

Most locos are needing 14.4 or that area. A couple need close to 20 volts.

Thanks,

Andrè

Man, that’s got to be bad for brain cells.

how many AA’s for the mallet?

Andrè be careful about using AA’s for anything with a heavy current draw.
They cannot handle much more than 1/2 - 1 amp continuous, without degrading the life span of the cells.
That is OK if you can get them for nothing of course.
Regular NiMh batteries self discharge quickly, so if you really must use AA’s, then go for the hybrid Alkaline-NiMh cells as they are guaranteed to hold 85% of charge for 1 year if left unused.

Much better to use SubC cells. They can handle heavy current draw.
I will let the Li-Ion fans step up to the plate to have their say about that type of battery.

about 325 Cale

Can’t get sub Cs in the Climax or the Shay bunker using battery holders Tony.

How much for some of the 3 dome tank cars? I want to make Hooters Wing Sauce cars with Hot, Medium, and Mild.

Andrè, then why not use AA’s to allow the loco to move around a yard light engine and have bigger batteries in a trail car for powering on the mainline under load.
When the trail car batteries are plugged into the charge jack in the rear of the loco the plug automatically disconnects the on board batteries and saves them for light engine running.
All parts needed are commonly available from most basic electronics stores or as a kit I make,

trail cars are impractical for doing ops, which includes travel on the mainline to the destination and switching there

OK.
Yes, I suppose it would be inconvenient to unplug the first car in the train so that you can switch other cars with the loco powered by its own on board batteries.
Then, when you have finished switching, I guess it would again be inconvenient to plug in the battery carrying trail car to go back on the mainline.

Ah well!! Never mind, it was just an idea.

Do you have prices set?

Andre, you’ve got mail.
