That’s the second Richter to die in an auto crash, isn’t it?
Shortly before the break-up, a daughter was killed.
Rest in Peace

The email I got said he plowed his car into a truck on the AutoBahn.

I got a e-mail this morning too. Bummer.
Jon.
If you have ever driven on ‘Der Autobahn’ you will understand that these things happen. Sorry to hear the man lost a son. RIP
Paul
It now appears that Mr David Buffington, LGBoA technical director, has been sending out e-mails to all and sundry. Seems that Herr Richter was involved in a crash with a trailer rig at about 10:30 friday evening on an as-yet un-named section of autobahn, and died as a result of his injuries.
If you recall, his daughter died a few years back, hit by a bus while walking to school. A really tragic family.

Completely unrelated, but …
Heading of an email I just received from a friend: Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly!

Not as safe any more.
I recently watched a documentary on it and due to the overwhelming increase in traffic and trucks, it is fast becoming a death trap.
In fact, they are considering a speed limit for the first time.
The speed demons with the sports cars now go out on it at 3 AM to open 'em up, because they can’t during the day due to traffic.
When have you last travelled on the autobahn John? Best, Zubi
Did you produce the documentary, Zub?
It was done this year.
You know not of what you type, or E. Paul or myself.
If you want to fight, lets go!

...... PS Rolf with his brother was the successor of Wolfgang until Lehmann's bankruptcy, and many of us, large scale hobbyistsm, knew him either directly or indirectly. Essentially all of us in this hobby, regardless of current scalewise and manufacturewise affection, owe him a minute of respect and a minute of sympathy to his family.
If your info on the Autobahn is as accurate as the ownership of Lehmann at the insolvency … ??? - Johannes is Rolf’s cousin.
Yes due to the traffic volume the Autobahn is more dangerous at night - too many speed demons - there are enough slow downs during the day, never mind which time of the week, to keep things at slow speed. And from what I get to hear about it it is no fun at all!
PS Here is a short commentary (In German) which puts things in perspective.
I also heard about the speed limit considerations on the entire Autobahn, arent there already speed restrictions on some urban stretches?
The “war against speed” is not just across Europe- its everywhere, Jeremy Clarkson was lamenting about it on Top Gear’s season 13 last episode.
Increased traffic, sustainablity issues, fuel costs, and increased speed restrictions are all consipiring to bring an end to the era of the high speed gas powered cars, even possible high speed electric or diesel cars are still going to run afoul of road rules and speed restrictions.
Here in California, if you drive faster than 100 and get ticketed they will arrest you and impound your car. I know as I came close to that driving thru the desert, airplane tagged me but the cop only cited me for 90mph, that still hurt but better than impounding my car and ending my vacation on the first day. PS it was the cop who told me about the impound rule.

I forgot to mention, at night it often becomes one lane as the trucks line up in the right lane bumper to bumper. Looks like a freight train on rubber. You have to fight to catch an exit.
I don’t care what the evolutionists or the creationists say, life begins at 3000 RPM.
John, Hans-Joerg and other Folks, could you please just shut up? This thread is about a tragic death of a person many knew personally, and considered a friend. Have a little respect. Best, Zubi
