Large Scale Central

Rockwall Canyon July 2013

So it has been a long time since my last photo contribution…well here we go!

Starting off we have RCRR #7 with a couple brand new empties and a CP caboose that somehow shrank to 3ft gauge proportions.

Next we have RCRR 1055 taking a short load around the line.

And better yet, we dusted off old RCRR #252 for a longer haul.

And finally we have RCRR #7 under steam with some light timber on a heavy grade.

The End

Looks great Jeff. Is that an Accucraft Shay? You’ve made it look unique.

Awsome. Great shots

Nice
Ralph

great pics

yeah, what they said… nice pics…

Love the shay and logging cars.

Great looking layout and I photo shots are perfect. How about some wided shots like Boomer said.

Hi everyone, thanks for the comments guys! The Shay is indeed an Accucraft three cylinder loco with some modifications by the previous owner and some by me. I mostly worked on the lettering and some of the paint, the decking was replaced by the previous owner with hardwood. The loco is an excellent steamer, and pulls strongest in reverse. This is okay on my layout because the in order to see the engine running on my grade the loco needs to run uphill in reverse anyways. as an added bonus on the steepest grades this also avoids letting water in the steam line.

What a beautiful yard you have. And the way you have included the railroad is great. I just love those last few ‘long’ shots with all the trees.

Thanks Greg!

It’s been quite a pleasure to build this railroad over the last 16 years, but now the time has come to move on to a new opportunity. This 2013 season will likely be the final season of the RCRR. The railroad actually peaked during the years 2000-2005, having nearly 2000ft of active track and a plethora of equipment and sidings. Today, less than 1000ft remain operational, with the remaining track in and much of t he equipment in storage for future use.

2014 will bring with it a new location and subsequently, a new railroad! (Possibly with US-proto gauge 3)

Very nice! Starting over will be a bit of a letdown or a challenge. All depends if it’s “been there, done that” time.

Hans-Joerg,

What’s happening here is another life-transition. I started the RCRR in 7th grade at my parent’s house. Today I’m married and I have kids, but I never lost interest in the railroad (still at my folk’s place)…there were simply more important things to do, so I had to scale back for awhile. Now, my kids are old enough to be interested in the trains and it so happens we’re ready to buy a home with land!

the new railroad will be all challenge…minimal plastic. I have the machinery to do everything, all I need is cedar, aluminum, brass, and time!

Great Jeff. It can be exciting to start over. You can correct those things that nagged you on the other railroad.

all I need is cedar, aluminum, brass, and time!

three of those you can buy, the fourth one is the challenge.

I missed this one…Nice shots Jeff!

Nice, thanks for sharing. Love the grass in the siding.

Thanks Guys!

The weedy…well-established…nearly abandoned look, I think, will be a thing of the past. Hope to be showing some new construction pics in September after the big move! I’m not sure how much longer the Rockwall Canyon will operate, but I think it will at least finish out the 2013.

Yer not gonna carry the name over to a new layout? I;ve been using WV&K since HOO and Nscale…and this is the third LS version of the WV&K…
