Looks like you’ll need a wooden apron to scoot the ore over to the cars.
It’s coming together nicely.

Here’s the “final” on the ore cart, at least one of them. This one will be perched near the mine, being pushed out. I need to make another one that will be posed actively dumping ore through a chute to one of the hoppers below.
Cheers!
Nice paint on a fine build. Really pops (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Ya’ see…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Looks Good!
Way too clean, it needs a thick layer of rock dust that matches your load, heavier on the side that dumps. The rush of rocks can create swirls and eddies…
Other than that, most excellent.
Mortar and pestle time!
Little ore cars came out great Jim
Your ore car turned out great, nicely weathered too. When did you grow a beard?(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Thanks, all. As to growing a beard: I can paint a beard on just as well as anyone!
Nice looking ore cars, Jim. Anxious to see them on the layout.
looks good Jim.
OK, now that the Mik challenge is over, I can get back to some last details on the mine complex. I’m working on the 2nd ore cart and as part of that needed to figure out how the ore will get to the hopper, so I’m simultaneously-ish building the chutes to bridge the distance. The new ore cart is still unpainted and is the little white thing at the top of the chute:
Boomer suggested building a frame to “hang” the chutes from as opposed to building support from underneath. Comments?
One other detail: it seemed like the chutes would be better with an metal “bed” so the ore would slide more easily:
Note that there will be 2 of these chutes, one for each hopper (only room for 2 on the trestle).
Cheers!
Nice idea on the chutes and giving them a metal slope sheet. I think I would consider 4 to get a more even load spread in each car.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
I think I’d have to disagree… Looking at the length of the cars and the size of the chute, I think one for each car is perfect… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Is a very nice build…
looks cool, but the chute is too long. it will load only one side of the hoppers.
(try it with sand or with cat litter)
Korm: Trying it out sounds like an excellent plan. No kitty litter available (allergies… and I’m a dog person) but I have a bunch of actual ore (er, rocks of the right size as I’m guessing there’s no actual gold in there).
As to the # of chutes, maybe trying it out will help with that too. I’ll report back…
According to an underground chute; 45 degree angle, 10" from center, 3" above top of car. The chute needs only reach the car so a boxcar can park there for supplies. The higher, the farther the ore tumbles.
I agree with Korm, as shown is likley to cause your cars to fall over …
I’m of the mind to keep it simple and have a chute for each car.
Jim you might find this link useful

Jim,
Just some observations.
Your chute is almost twice as long as needed, and looks to high on the ore tipper end to let the
car spill into it rather than on the deck.
Two chutes are plenty if the cars are moved so they can fill from 2 locations, fill the front of both cars
then move them to fill the back half of the cars. If a locomotive is not there on a standby basis then an
interesting addition would be a “Tugger Hoist” to pull the cars into the second position
Rick
Jim,
What ore hoppers are those? They are just about exactly what I have envisioned for the indoor. They are short outside framed wood cars. perfect.
