The boxes look great Jim, nice work!
Thanks, all! I have plans for the rest of this mine area and will just keep chronicling progress here even though the title of this forum is pretty specific.
Hah! Great job.
Now you just need a couple of powder monkeys building charges and the scene is complete.
Oh I stole your pic of the boxes to post on my website. … Thanks (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

The good ones still have all their fingers…
The old man inserts the fuses, the grunts drill the holes and when challenged, drill it deeper. A shallow hole only blows off the face of the rock, a good deep hole fractures the whole thing… “Dig 'em deeper me lads, see the marks I put on yer drills? Ha Ha, deeper!”
Yep that’s why Dynamite Dan gets the big bucks, done right you keeps yer fingers. Shallow? You’ll be dodging stone saucers! Then trying to re-drill fractured stone … making gravel … which clogs the flutes and jams the bit … Dagnabbit! The old man’s way is easier…

When does the accident happen with video ?
That looks cool.
But what is the point of having a powder shack if the careless miners are going to leave the dynamite sitting out in the open where it can get wet, or stolen?
I am just asking in a tongue in cheek sort of way.
Well, odd story about that, Dave. After the contractor who built the storage building left, nobody could get the door to budge! They are beginning to suspect there aren’t even any hinges!
and don’t get them started about where the light switch is …
Ah ha. Ok then.
Progress report: planking down on both upper and lower trestle. Started storage building on the upper trestle that has supports stretching over to the cliff.
Lots of plans to add more details/action here: chutes to load ore, unloading platform on the lower trestle, hoist to raise supplies to the upper, a water tank (or 2, maybe with a pump), lots of crates, barrels, more lighting, and of course a couple of side unload human pushed ore carts.

Wow that’s gonna be a lot of track considering he’s in Maryland! (Sorry had to say it )

You’re getting all kinds of great detailing in that small space. Very nice(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Thanks David. Rooster: are we calling him “The Cliff” now? I guess it is justified given his epic mine complex build…
HahaHA! Just saw that…
Thanks guys!
Jim’s work is so beautiful, thanks for ranking me in his class!!
Looks great. Fun project and new modeling technique to play with.
This weekend was all about adding a storage building and crane to the upper trestle. Did not quite finish (this going to work stuff kind of sucks). Open house is soon so I hope I can get this done and looking ok.
Here is the storage building and main part of the crane on the workbench:
The plan is to have a place on the roof for somebody to crank something to wind up a rope that goes over that large pulley on the far right. The idea is to hoist supplies (crates, barrels, etc.) up from the lower platform. I’ll be building a small platform for unloading supplies from a freight car down there.
I’m toying with the idea of using a cargo net, though so far my attempts to tie my own from some cordage is a bit frustrating (I don’t have enough fingers and the ones I do have are too fat!). This first attempt was ok but I used lengths of string that are too short. I really have no idea what I’m doing here.
Anybody have a better idea for how to stage a crate being hoisted using rope rigging? Or where to get a scale cargo net? Anybody want to loan me any (non-middle) fingers to help?
Cheers!
(edited to add a picture I forgot! doh!)
if you look in a toystore…
beachtoys for smaller children come often in some kind of net. might be, you could use these.
edit: like this:
or eco-shop reusable shopping nets.
Fabric stores >netting, lace or veils …
Thanks, those are all great suggestions. I’ll go hunting because this tying thing is just not working at my level of coordination.
