Hello all ! Ca n’t wait till this weekend. Going to spend the night at a house we rented right across the tracks from Rochelle’s railroad park . They have a real Milwaukee Road caboose in the yard that we will have the key for and a fire pit too. We’ll need it this weekend as it’s gonna be in the 30’s overnite. If you’ve ever been there you probably know the house i’m talking about. If anyone is interested in staying there also call 1-815-561-7076 and ask for Fred Horner. It’s $100.00 / night and thats for a two story 4 bed accomidation.

Well the trip and stay at Rochelle Railroad park was awsome ! We were right next to the tracks . We saw around 40 trains , mostly UP with a sprinkle of BNSF . There was also a couple of CSX trains and saw a train with two NS units in the consist. The lodge was more than I expected . It looked to be recently remodeled and was very nice and clean and stocked with all the things you need to live there down to the can of coffee in the fridge. Inside the caboose was all the firewood we needed to stay up till 2 a.m. . A couple of trains during the night stopped right in front of us blocking the road for at least 30 minuites. If I was modeling DTTX flats I could have got all the photo’s and info I could ever ask for ! To me the best was waking up with my coffee and walking about 100 feet and watching a UP manifest train slowly roll by ! If you want a GREAT railfan experiance you will want to stay here for the nite. There’s even a scanner set up in the house that monitors the action so you don’t have to wait in the cold ! I’m leaving for work now but will post some photos when I have more time . If you plan on coming out this way sometime you MUST stay here , you will be glad you did !!!
