Roaring overhead

I was pretty sure the deep roar I heard through the trees tonight was a WW-II bomber. A quick check confirmed that The Collings Foundation’s B-17 and B-24 are visiting an airport 10 air-miles from my house, and I live right next to a lake attractive for fly-overs. Unfortunately they didn’t get above the tree-line so I missed seeing them, but the sound was unmistakable… [url=lsc.cvsry.com/b-17_b-24-1024.jpg]

Fantastic photos there!!!

We have the B-17G ‘Sally B’ flying this weekend at the IWM Duxford, about thirty miles south of us here in rural cambs.

What a wondrous sight she makes!

Just went over again a few minutes ago. Dense cloud ceiling at about 2500 feet or so, the B-17 was under the clouds and passed withn a few hundred yards of my house. I managed to get outside quick enough to catch a quick glimpse through the trees. I love that sound

I saw these babies fly overhead when they were out here for an airshow, dam shame there so few of them left flying.

2 More flyovers on Sunday - B-17 and B-25. Clear blue skies and both times they were just above the trees across the street from my house. Way cool   I’d never seen the B-25 before… [url=lsc.cvsry.com/b25-1024.jpg]

Today they flew out of the area to their next stop in Rhode Island

The local airfield near here has an airshow every year. They’ve had both the B-17 and B-25 on display and involved in fly-by’s. I don’t know if they were the same 2 you saw or not. Quite impressive…and noisy.

Probably the same Ken. There aren’t that many flying and the Collings Foundation group tours the Eastern Seaboard every year. What time of year is the air show? - I’ll look up the date on the website

Usually on one the first 2 weekends in June. New Garden Airfield.

Must have been another one. The Collings Foundation birds were out west in June. Didn't get to the East Coast until mid August. Pittsburg on the 18th and Altoona on the 20th.

Looks like they’ll be close to me again in September at White Plains, NY. I haven’t seen them on the ground in a few years - might make a stop down there.

It was in 2004 when I saw them. I haven’t been able to make it to the show the last couple of years so I don’t know if any were there or not.
