Yeah, I’m a “newbie” and here’s another “dumb question”. I’ve acquired several pieces of G scale rolling stock and locomotives for my garden railroad which have varying road names. Is there some way to simply remove the unwanted name without having to repaint? I’m tempted to try using lacquer thinner or “GooGone” type chamicals but worry about their effect on plastics etc. Thanks for any help or advice.
Jerry,
The names can be removed or painted over in many ways. Check with your local hobby shop for decal remover. Rubbibg alcohol also works on some. A little patiences and you will receive results. You can also do what the big guys do which is to just paint over the markings and logos. A trip to a local railroad crossing and a few hours of watching will give you lots of examples.
And, of course, trains get mixed all the time. I changed my Pennsylvania coaches to “Asylum Valley N&D” very easily. I painted out the Pennsylvania lettering with gold paint, then printed white letters on black background onto clear decal paper.
You can remove the lettering off of Aristo trains with a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser (in with the cleaning supplies). It takes a lot of elbow grease but it will get the job done. PollyS Easy Lift Off will remove some others but may take some paint too.
