RLD open house on 6-3-17
Thanks, Matt.
Matt: what is the area (dementions) of th layout? It looks quite large with large radius curves so they can run long trains. most interesting. Paul
Good video, Matt… Didn’t realize Robby had an open house…
Matt, I was wondering who owned the train that was tying up the inside siding all weekend. If you own the layout I guess you have track rights
How about a video of an overview of your large layout, would like to see what you have setup there
Thanks for posting Matt. We had a great time at the open house. Robbie has them in the spring and fall. Fall is going to be around the end of September this year Spring is normally in May, but other things pushed it back to the first Friday/Saturday in June. Great deals, great food and lots of trains running on Saturday. If it gets much larger, we will have to get a dry erase board for track time signups. While RLD is in the middle of nowhere in Illinois, there are hotels in Olney, about 25 miles to the north. The shop is south of I70 an hour down 130 then a mile or two back east on 15. Hope to see more guys at the fall open house! Mike and Michele T
E. Paul Austin, I’m not really sure the dimensions of his layout. Most of the tracks in the yard will hold a 30 car train with 2-3 engines. Robby used flex track, so the curves really aren’t curves. They are sweeping straights. hahaha. But really, I’m not sure what you would consider the diameter of them to be.
Andy, I didn’t make it to friday so I figured that was the day you came by. If I’d know I would have called you. Sorry!
Jim, Robby own’s the layout and that was his train. When you own it you can park whever. lol!!
Mark, that’s not my layout. That’s RLD Hobbies layout. Robby owns it. I have now way of doing an overview of it. I know it shows up on goolge maps though. My layout is at my house and is garden railroad…still under construction.
Good to see you Mike. Robby’s dad is a heckuva chef. I’ll be back for the fall show. I hope to come both days, we’ll see what work has in store for me come closer to time. Saturday wasn’t too busy this time. Last open house there was a long wait to get a train on the layout…and most of the trains were loooooong!
Nice job Matt, like I mentioned to someone else, if I go thre I will have to have a new credit card, because it would get w huge workout there. Great deals this year on the Auto Racks. those are some huge cars.
Cousin Matt
Is that my old gal at about 1:50 into the video?
For those who asked about RLD Hobbies track size about 100ft straights and about 50 straights on small sides
Doing a big guesstimate, 450 feet by guessing and rough measuring on the screen courtesy of Google Maps
NOTE all guess work.

Mark, if you go to RLD’s website, and click on “Layout Pictures” in the column on the left, you can scroll through and get an idea of how big it is.
Nice video Matt, thanks. Sure a lot of modern stuff.
Thanks Pete. I didn’t come home with too much. I brought home a new piko barn, a sack full of kadee’s, and a diecast pick up truck.
Cuz, that sure is! I took my mixed frieght up there with me led by your old gal! I had my gp40 there too, but I forgot my mu plug at home. So, I just ran the two sd40-2’s together. Then a little later took some of the freight cars off and ran the gp40 solo.
Cuck, there was some non modern stuff there too. Normally I don’t take stuff to run. I usually just take video’s and hang out. So, this time I didn’t get as much of the action going on. I also get to make it until saturday. Hopefully this fall I can make both days.
Interesting jump in the loco at 0:49, jumps up pretty high!
Look like fun!
Greg
Greg, that’s no joke! There was another steam loco that acutaly jumped and derailed. Luckily it landed on the edge of the layout not the ground. The one in the video would look like it was popping a wheelie going across the switch. LOL!
It sure was a great time!
It was funny to see the NTCGRR hoppers…
Thanks Matt great video

Wow that is BIG!
So the last picture, is that so show how fast you can get the trains to go that they will hang on the track upside down??? LOL
Mark, I think the last picture on the RLD site is for Lionel Trains with MAGNA TRACTION!!! lol
