RJ's Mikado

RLD Hobbies had an Open House on last Friday and it went on to Saturday, also. Lots of our friends were there on Friday. Got to see RJ’s EBT Mikado live steamer, radio controlled. What a great running unit. Didn’t get to see it pulling anything, but it had great sound and he could down it down to make it really crawl and bark. I didn’t get any pictures, but I hope somebody will post some.

Well, I wasn’t there - but I would also like to see pics of RJ’s Mikado.

I’ll echo that comment. Sounds like there is a lot of good times going on out in the mid section this spring. I’m looking forward to putting some R/C in my #12 too, so I’d love to see some shot’s of RJ’s. Thanks for keeping us informed Rick.

Sent an email to Robby at RLD. Maybe I can get a response or at least RJ’s email.

Randy,

I wrote mine up and it was published in Steam in the Garden. You can buy a back-issue, or I can maybe find the PDF of the proof copy.

There’s also a long, long thread on MLS (search for EBT #12) that starts to get interesting around page 20, when deliveries started!

Alas, still no pictures, or even more bettah, video!

Just to keep you going until the pics and/or video come along:

Thanks for that fine bit of consolation Pete. It really sounds great. Is that a home brew or a Summerland’s chuffer? I’ve read some of the threads over there but not that one though I do recall reading it at the time. I’ll have to find it again. My #12 will have it’s day soon. Once I have track to run it on it won’t be long.

That’s a Summerlands chuffer. The loco sounds better with the standard ‘blast pipe’, as the prototypes have a very quiet ‘chuff’. However, the Summerlands completely removes all the oil spray and makes the loco much neater - and I don’t have to worry about the oily weathering when I clean it!

There are a lot more videos of my engine(s) on youtube - just search for fred2179l

I got RJ’s email address from Robby. Sent an appeal to the source, we’ll see.

Ric: Got your e-mail. I’ll fill you in in the e-mail. Later RJD

Ric forwarded RJ’s pictures to me to re-size and post. I’ll get to it as soon as I can - perhaps this evening.

Thank you, Jon. Always appreciated.

Well that died. Later RJD

Sorry about that - Got sidetracked and forgot all about it. Here ya go;

Sweet! Thanks for posting those John, It makes Ric’s story below so much more real:

Now Ric spoke about the ability to crawl and go slow. (while sounding really good (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)) That’s great because I want to try and have this gal gliding in and out of the sidings working the mines at slow to medium speeds. I would sacrifice being able to open full throttle for finer control of the throttle. But, I suppose as long as I got a larger servo I could use a longer horn/bigger gear to get the fine control. I also want to see if jason has the replacement needle valve that they do for the ruby. Or was #12’s made better from the factory?

R.J. , I see you are just using two horns with a linkage on your throttle. Is the linkage sprung in any way?
