River rafting

Well, the one with the long coal empties was just a teaser, turns out Saturday was the end of the season for the rafting outfit. Good thing I caught all the good stuff on video.

The Thompson flows out of Kamloops Lake and first down a reasonably wide valley. It gets considerably more narrow after Spences Bridge and has real Canyon character the closer it gets to Lytton, where it empties into the Fraser.

Both rafting outfits had “boats” on the river, at the same time. BTW some of the boats are powered, others you get to paddle. There was no difference in the level of screaming when they hit some of the “good” spots.

Sitting in the front must be the real experience! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Great vid HJ…we took that same trip with Kumsheen 3 years ago. Stayed in their campground the night before and after. We had a great time and well worth the price.

Thanks Randy,

I’m already planning strategy how to get SWMBO on to one of those rafts.

BTW we took 5A from Kamloops to Merrit and then 8 to Spences Bridge. Highlight on Hwy 8.

Then you were within 1 minute of our house when you passed thro Merritt.

That's the ticket! You want to have a good wet or dry suit, though.

I took a trip down the Wenatchee River with my kids when they were in High School. I had the left front spot, my son (18), had the right front, and my daughter (14) was just behind me. As we went through Snow Blind, I was getting hit with every wave, right in the chest. My 14 yo daughter thought that was hilarious.

As we approached Drunkard’s Drop (don’t you just love those names?), I decided that paybacks were in order. I took the first wave in the chest as usual, to get the timing down, then on the next one, I bent down and grabbed the raft, pressing my chest into the big rubber tube. The wave passed right over me, hitting her square in the face and chest. It was sweet.

If you can get Class III water, it is like skiing the single black diamond runs at most resorts. Class IV water is like the double black diamonds. I’ll leave the Class V water for the crazies. I saw Class II water from 5:00 to 5:42 The only Class III water I saw in the video was 7:20 through 8:30. Aside from that it looked like Class I (flat water) or Class II (small riffles). Still, it all looked like fun, a good trip to break in on.

Talk her into it, you won’t regret it.
