Large Scale Central

Rio Grande Southern Train and other layout photos

I ran a Rio Grande Southern (RGS) train on our layout and took some photos. There’s also some other layout photos. Enjoy First the Rio Grande Southern freight. Since our layout is predominately D&RGW, this train is running with extra flags.

The freight is passing a D&RGW passenger train led by K-28 #473:

And finally some mine photos:

Glad to see you got it all put back together. I’v got to get up to your place soon. This weekend (sun) I’ll be installing the water tank at Andy’s in Hermosa, the week after that is open… We’ll see.

Keep these coming please. A pleasure to look at.

Great photos. Layout always looks nice.

Excellent looking railraod Matt. Looks like you have plenty of shade to run the trains in this sweltering heat.

Dave, we’d love to show you the layout. If you think you might be coming to the Vallecito area, send me an email: [email protected]

The weather hasn’t been the best lately though. Pretty windy in the afternoon, and it looks like the monsoon is starting to set up. Not much rain yet :frowning: but the wind and clouds are getting good. It the best here before noon. Not as much wind and pretty good temperatures too.

Wow! That’s some layout, Matt. And ya done it exactly the way I would have–making it look pretty dang realistic. I can tell by the lay of the land, though, ya don’t live in So Cal. Heck, even our local city park ain’t that big.

Well…Actually I do live in SoCal for most of the year. But I usually spend the summer in Colorado (north east of Durango), where the outdoor layout is. We’re at 8,00 feet elevation. Kind of unique as I can’t do a garden railway here. Very few plants and flowers you can get at a nursery will grow here. So any foliage you see is 100% natural. Everything except the track comes inside for winter storage. I even bring in the switch tracks so elk don’t trample the switch stands. Occasionally I can get some time to come out to Colorado during the winter. If conditions are right, I’ll run a winter train:
