Large Scale Central

Ridge Road Station

Went to the RRS site this evening to see what I might pick up with my Christmas loot, and found that they have very little stock in large scale.
Now, I haven’t been there in many months (nothing in the capital budget :frowning: ), and I may well have missed something in the news, but is RRS not selling LS any more?

This happened a year or two ago too, around Christmas, and turned out to be a combination of inventory, and some reorganizing of the website.

That said, it seems like a lot of stuff there has been dwindling of late, and Bachmann forneys and K-27’s are now priced especially low… and are the only two Spectrum locos left.

I’d call, ask for Peter, the owner, and ask him what’s up … to say the man is outspoken is an enormous understatement (and that’s not a bad thing.)

There inventory has been low for about a year now. Its very difficult to find a good selection of engines and in some cases rolling stock. I would guess economy has something to do with it. They do restock but not like they use to, very limited. It seems a lot of train stores have been low on inventory, the same holds for wholesale and st aubins. I would give them a call Ridge d is good and they might be able to get it for you.

The economy has everything to do with it. Inventories are being kept low across the board.
Been to a new car dealer lately? Lot’s are almost empty.
They have a car or two to show you, but assure you they can get you what you want.
Same with parts. Stocking almost nothing and your car sits for several days while they wait for parts to arrive.
We needed a tubo for my work truck about a year ago. Truck sat for a week while we waited for a turbo to be sent from Japan.

RR Station used to be one of my go-to places for things.
Now they won’t even order an out of stock item and have it dropped shipped.
Too bad…

I just ordered a Davenport from them about a week before Christmas, it was here within a week or so.
The price was really good and shipping charges were honest.

In the last month I have put in 3 different orders with RRS. Seemed they had real good deals on Bachman metal wheels, and some Aristo frt cars and switches. All shipments were filled correctly and received at my house within 5-6 days. Maybe their in store inventory looks low but the mail order business is good.

The mail order is great, they ship fast and the prices are good. Thats not the problem, the problem is their inventory on the website. More on the higher priced items not track and parts so much. Look at steam engines for Bachmann or others. they dont have much, not like it was a year ago. They have the davenport and a few others but no porters, 10 wheelers etc... Its been like that for a good year or more.

I predict as I have predicted before, just like when I was in the liquor business till 2006, all the biggest, stable, and or profitable, and the ones we go to for our things first, because of pricing, will carp up all the “littler” guys eventually, and there will be only a few of the majors surviving!! You know “survival of the most profitable” So to speak!! Regal

If anyone has been hankerin for an Accucraft brass long caboose…
RRS has em for $199.00.

Wasn't anything in particular, Fred. I was browsing to see what might be useful. The Big Controller knows I have more stuff than I need. What piqued my curiosity was that I've always found RRS's listings to be extensive, even if the item wasn't in stock (and that was clearly indicated). The shortage of listings and some fire-sale prices gave the impression of a going-out-of-business sale. I did think of inventory and website adjustments, but figured I'd ask anyway.

What I should do now, of course, is clean out my “workshop” and start kitbashing, scratchbuilding and fettling up what I have.

A few weeks ago a friend told me about a sale on track at RRS. The sale was on Brass and Stainless. Finally could afford a circle of wide curves and stainless was less expensive than the brass.

They have the Precision Scale sheets on sale for $6. Not a bad price.

Better get it now before they close their doors, they are slated to shut down as early end of Febuary, owners calling it quits.

Just put in a final order :( I liked that place. Sigh.

I just ordered a bunch of woodland scenic figures from them. Going to miss Ridge Rd.

I’m gonna miss Ridge Road too, I spent over my monthly train budget this past Friday just to get the rest of the Kadee’s I needed and a few Cars and some track and switches I need for spring.

For those planning to order from Ridge Road, Victor’s comment to do so asap is accurate. The store, per my conversation, will be sold. Both the train and toy business will cease. I encouraged Marilyn, one of the key voices there, to read the appreciative comments on LSC. If this is one of them she is reading, our best to truly an honest and well-honored company. We will miss them.

ORDERING FROM RIDGE ROAD
Sorry for the caps - I forgot to include that there are no phone orders, just use the on-line process they have on their site. I ordered some small items on Friday, January 28th. If you indicate a quantity and the system reports a different number, there’s no error, it is what is left.
