Ridge Road Accucraft sale

Last I checked, they were almost sold out of flats.
Just lots of gons left.
Remember that accu flats are bowed somewhat.

Dang low, I’d say. I tried to order two of the same number and they didn’t have them in stock. I’d order quick…

I just got done buying some boxcars for use on my private road, I noticed that the there was only one regular flat car type left. Lots of gons, boxcars, log cars, C&S stock cars, and some silver CONOCO tanks. This is my first time with Ridge Road I think (I’ve been gone for a while), hopefully this will be a better experience than those last jokers I ordered from who backordered everything I really wanted.

You can trust the website at RRS. If it says it's in-stock you will get it. If you try and order more than they have on-hand it will tell you in the shopping cart.

Looks like I’ll miss out on this sale.

I’ve never had a problem with Ridge Road. In fact, on one order, they called to update the status. I was shocked.

I guess their sale was a success; not a whole lot left. I’m glad I got the three flats when I did. Of course, they haven’t shown up yet.

Nobody wants those gons, eh?

Jon,
You’ll just have to build a boxcar from scratch! Now that you’ve got that flat car under your belt you should be able to make a nice one.

I work well in wood, so perhaps a wood box is in my future. Still not comfortable with acrylic - I lack tools and adhesives. I have 6 of Bob’s boxcar kits waiting for the day I’m ready to tackle them.

Tools and adhesives are critical. Your wood work sure does look good, so it’s time to start planning. To me, half the fun and relaxation in this hobby comes from building something.

I’m now building 3 more of those boxcars and really enjoying them. That will make a total of 9 that I’ve built from his kits.

Back in the mid 1990’s I was building boxcars from wood in 1:20.3, and did the RGS long caboose too; I have a short crummy built, but not painted yet too. Then as time went by and I found out we would be moving again, I kind of got uninterested with no place to run my stuff. I still have materials to make more wooden cars and just might some day, but at $49.00 with Accu Couplers and sprung trucks with metal wheels; I mean I’m not that much into building from scartch. I’ll be more at ease weathering and distressing the AMS cars anyway. The wooden cars I built I wound up lettering for RGS and and since I am post 1952, I added their nifty sunrise heralds to mine; and whats more, I like them that way. I did use Kadee couplers on those home made cars, and I am glad to see they are compatible with the other types I have. The sale is pretty good, I just wish I had more green right now, I’d take several of those gons off their hands too, and just open up the ends and move the break rigging…scratchbuilding some idler flats would be real fun to go with them.

Early one morning at the Chama engine house, K-27 463 abd K-37 497 are getting fired up.

... So, instead I ordered some AMS flatcars for $30 each. I figure that these will make great bases for my boxcars and all of the underbody detail (that I usually don't do) is already done, and is probably more square than any of my efforts.
That's exactly what I'm doing with mine. The dimensions of the flat car are almost spot on for the EBT's work caboose #26, though I'm modeling it before it was a work caboose. I'm cutting the sides out of masonite, and will laminate them with styrene or wood scribed siding, depending on what kind of mood I'm in.

Later,

K

Great minds think alike, Kevin! Did you encounter any problems smoothing the sides of the flat car? Or gluing the masonite in place?

Guys,
What do you do to get the arch out of the flat car?
My regular Accu flats are humped in the middle.
The idlers are as flat as can be.

I’ll let you know Tuesday, which is when they’re supposed to show up. I don’t have any of the AMS flat cars in my current inventory.

I have heard of folks putting a brick on it while it sat in the sun…

Accucraft says you need to “split the deck” ie: actually cut between the boards so the deck isn’t one solid piece much like you seam a concrete sidewalk or driveway. Both mine were slightly bowed and when one sat out in the sun, it bowed so bad it wouldn’t couple with anything else.
Terry

I put 3 or 4 slits in the deck with a razor saw. Don’t know if it got better, but it didn’t get worse.

I got the flat cars today. I don’t see any bowing…just living lucky, I guess.

Bruce,

I didn’t have it when they were new. It came with time.

Oh. I’m doomed! Doomed, I tell you!!! :frowning:

What are you going to do with them?

Ric,
I’m planning on using them for bases for some boxcars I want to build. So, in that respect, I’m not too concerned with any bowing. They will have some sides glued to them.

But, that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t get a bailout, does it?

"But, that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t get a bailout, does it? "

Nope, your right, you should get a bail out, but you will have to pay higher taxes on that. Yep, your doomed.
