Large Scale Central

RhB Grischun Schematic

Hi all,

Additional info: all in “Red” is “Staging”, at the moment there are just four actual stations (in “Black”), two more to follow later on. But as far as traffic is concerned it is just like the proto. Flows from “Landquart” all the way to “Campocologno”.

Physical Layout “L” through “D”

Physical Layout “Th” through “M”

Physical Layout “P” through “C”

Stupid question time…

If only the black stations (plus two future) are actually on the layout, why confuse the issue by listing all of the off-layout locations and industries?

Because he is HJ.

Attention to detail.

Jon,

Because on the real RhB goods show up from specific places; transfer points, industries etc. even if they’re just in transit through the modeled part they still have an origin and a destination. That’s one of the nifty things of a relatively small captive NG railway.

For instance: petroleum products (heating oil) enter the system either at Landquart - the tank farm is also fed from the SG system - or Campocologno (Italian border). It all depends if the spot price is better at Genoa or Rotterdam. That means empty tankers are either headed to “L” or to “C”.
All the cement traffic originates at the cement works at “U”, any empties are supposed to be returned to “U”. But there are cement silos at “D”, “Ti” etc. etc. which then means that the traffic on 5105 gets more interesting since there are more possibilities than just the end of the line at “St.M”.

In short it makes the traffic pattern much less repetitive.

Side benefit: the extra variety will also show patterns in the DB function which probably wouldn’t show with fewer points of origin and destinations.
