RGS Operations

I realize it’s early into it but …Keep the pics coming please !

In the defense of few pictures…when you’re doing this it’s VERY hard to remember to take pictures. I’ve gone for hours forgetting that I even brought my camera (yeah, old school here). And I don’t upload them to the computer until I get home…so for me, it’s rare to see same day pictures. I love seeing the pictures, but I completely understand if there’s very few.

The only way to experience something like this is to be there. Sure sorry we missed it.

Glad we finally made it (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)Just got back from Rex’s Toad House. More food than I could eat so we had to get our Freddie’s Custard to go for a Midnight snack in the room. Think I found a back way to avoid 202 and 1 most of the way and get around the closed Rt 926 that my GPS keeps wanting us to take. Rt 52 is only a short way up the road from our hotel.

Should be interesting. All but Jon and I are inexperienced operators, so it will be fun to see how this goes. Jim Kottkamp should be here today and he’s run the RR before, so he should be a big help. Jon had a chance Friday to get some familiarity with the layout, so he should be a big help also. I will try to keep my camera handy to record this inaugural event, hopefully the first of many more to come. We shall see how that goes, too.

Yea, Jon, 52 will work too. Good way to avoid the traffic.

Since Jon and I were basically the only ones experienced at this, it took awhile to set this up this morning, but we finally got going.

Al Pomeroy arrived and Jon and him ran the first train. Here they back into Porter.

Bob and Pete Thorton look on.

Jim Kottkamp takes his train into Porter.

Needs no words…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Pete does some contemplating, while Jay decides to take a break.

John heads to Delores while Pete keeps an eye out.

Seems we had more “rookies” then “veterans” so we only got 2 trains run. But it was fun watching the confusion…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Ken; From the pictures, you sure had a great railroad to share with your visitors…great…it had to be a success…

Fred

What a great time! Ken is a great host and an impressive railway. It’s not often that one Garden Railway can keep 8 operators busy! Plenty of space for operations, and the towns are very well developed with businesses located close to the stations. Oh, and the eats were excellent!

Dave Marconi arrived as we were eating lunch with desert: cupcakes! And a special treat, his scratch built BL-2. I think he got some pictures of it running on the layout. By then I was exhausted…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Too cool. Really sorry to miss this one.

Believe me Bruce, you and Jean were truly missed!

Ken,

Glad you had a good turnout and good weather for your first ops session on the new RGS. It looks fabulous! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Looks like everyone had a great time and the weather appears to have been perfect. Hope everyone returns home safely.

Ken, Again I want to thank you for opening the layout to those who were able to attend.

The group when I arrived:

And the gracious host

Trains on the track

The ladies enjoying the shade

And the first appearance of the traveling outhouse

I did get a short run in before I left and after the days OPs were done.

Wonderful day and it is nice to be able to put names to faces with whom we interact on a regular basis. Nice meeting the new and seeing the old who I’ve met.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

More pix from today.

Jon and Bob working Mancos.

The “Peanut Gallery” looks on.

The finally arrive in Hesperus.

And Porter at last.

Not quite as warm today as it was yesterday, but a beautiful day to run trains. I even got a chance to run one today.

Ran a car location report this morning and found a few misplaced cars which is normal. Fixed a couple of broken couplers.

I had a good time and found out Jerry’s buddy Jay is from the neighborhood I grew up in before he moved out here. Small world.

Cool.

How’s your track holding up? Or is it too soon to tell? Looking forward to seeing your depot in person. Had I known, I would have gone out to your truck at the ECLSTS!

There are 3 other tires available to wiz on so why not!

Got home about 7:30 this evening. Took a leisurely ride up 222 through the Amish countryside. I am a WNY transplant to CT, but I still think PA has some of the most beautiful countryside and old architecture of any place I have been. Ken’s place wasn’t too bad either (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

We had a great time. Nice laid back operation today with Bob and Ken. I only took a few pictures, I’ll try and get them processed and posted before next weekend. Tonight I veg.

Glad to see and read it all went well… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

This was a good test, Bruce. Track is holding up well, but different engines found problems in different spots, mainly at certain switches, which didn’t surprise me. I have them noted and plan to work on the few trouble spots. And since most of the rolling stock was in use, there were some coupler issues. Jon suggested a track plan of the different towns showing the various industries. That was always in the back of my mind to address.

Consider this an incentive to drive up when you can and view it in person…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I got a real kick out of watching how others worked the layout. To me, that was the highlight of the whole weekend.

You made good time. I use that route going up to Fred’s, through Reading and then catching the TP at Allentown. I was very glad you could make the trip down.

Looks like a great crowd and beautiful layout!

Is that bird crap on the roofs of the structures? And I think the constant battle with leaves all winter is a PITA, LOL!

I see Bob is wearing the appropriate shirt, in more ways than one.
