After reading Kevin’s review of the new sound cards in the latest GR magazine I have a question. The old receivers had 6 assignable keys, 1-6. The new ones use keys 1-3 for the onboard sound and 7-9 for volume, leaving just 4-6 as assignable. If one chooses to use a separate sound card instead of the onboard sound are keys 1-3 still assignable ?
According to Navin at Aristocraft:
WHEN THE SOUND UNIT IS ‘ON OR OFF’ # ALL THE AUX WIRE WILL FUNCTION
Tom
That’s correct. The function keys (1 - 6) will control auxiliary functions no matter what. It’s just that functions 1 - 3 are “dual purpose,” triggering not only the auxiliary functions, but the sounds as well.

K
So only 4-6 are really the only ones available independently, right?
Do you normally leave functions 1-3 as momentary or latching with the Revo “sound” versions?
Greg
If you’re running the on-board sound, then yes–only 4 - 6 are “independent.” 1 - 3 will trigger the sounds (or turn the speaker on/off) when you push them to trigger whatever may be piggybacked on those functions via the aux trigger. One example might be to hook a ditch light circuit to the horn button, so the ditch lights illuminate when the horn is blown or something like that. (But if you’re that OC about correct correlation between sound/lights, you’re probably not going to satsified with the quality of Aristo’s sound…)
If you’re running the Aristo sound, you want 1 to be set to latching, and 2 and 3 to momentary.
Later,
K
Thanks Kevin… just wondering, since “sharing” an output would probably only make sense on latched ones…
I forgot, but 1 is sound on/off, and 2 and 3 are bell and horn right?
Greg
Yep. 1 is on/off, 2 and three are bell and horn (or horn and bell, I forget which is which off the top of my head.)

K
I have an installation to do, but with hot temperatures today & a forecast of 43 celsius (109 fahrenheit) tomorrow, I dont think it is going to happen for a few days! Thanks guys for all the information, it makes it a lots easier to comprehend what to do.
