Glad to see them back on line.

Hmmm

I wonder if they are capable of repairing the older train engineers?

That sure looks like Navin’s old address.

It might be similar, but its not exactly the same…

Some googling around shows that its a new domain, created on September 1, 2016.

if you are talking his home address i think it is he works for the new owner

cheers

It’s the same building that they (Crest Electronics) used after they “moved” from Navin’s home.

Not clear who owns how much, but the primary person appears to be the original hardware designer.

Robby is showing Revolution Products are now back in stock at RLD, just ordered a receiver.

Does anyone know if the sound-equipped receivers will work (including sounds) with the old REVO transmitters?

Ray,

They are exactly the same receivers as they were from Crest. I too just ordered my seventh one from Robbie RLDHobbies.com

Joe

If they are exactly the same, why won’t the sound or upgrading work with Crest™ receivers?

They have a note on the USB programmer page.

Tom

Firmware?

I can’t answer that. Perhaps Robbie at RLD Hobbies can. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

I’d suggest calling/emailing Navin for the definitive answer.

I think that all the transmitters were the same physical hardware, you might need a firmware update to control the Revolution sound receivers.

Again, check with Navin, he will know.

Greg

OK, I called Navin.

  1. The VERY EARLY transmitters (with plastic keyboard, not rubber) are not upgradeable… most were part of the Beta test, but a few were sold.

  2. notwithstanding #1, ALL transmitters are the same hardware and will run the same firmware, old and new, sound and non sound receivers.

  3. the USB dongle will update ALL transmitters (when they release the files)

  4. the USB dongle will update all the “new” receivers.

  5. They are working on this, so that the USB dongle will update the OLD Revolution receivers. Remember that the main engineer on the Revolution is one of the owners of the new Precision RC company.

So, bottom line, is that unless you have one of the very rare plastic keyboard transmitters, EVERYTHING will work with EVERYTHING.

Greg

And what does a firmware upgrade accomplish on the receivers? I mean, if the old ones can not be upgraded, what functionality is not gained?

You have posed 2 separate questions (I realize that maybe you only meant to ask the second):

“And what does a firmware upgrade accomplish on the receivers?”

Well, what does a firmware upgrade accomplish on your phone, your computer, your TV, your car? Seriously, do I really need to answer what firmware upgrades do for microprocessor-based hardware? Also different sound files will be able to be downloaded to the sound-capable receivers.

“I mean, if the old ones can not be upgraded, what functionality is not gained?”

It appears that all receivers will eventually be able to be upgraded, so why pose this? Also, if you are asking for bug reports, or release notes, I’m sure that will be forthcoming.

Greg

Greg I do firmware updates on copiers all the time. Some are definite bug fixes. Most are…well…neither I nor my customers notice any difference.

I ask, because many times the older stuff doesn’t get the engineering needed to update it. That stuff has already been sold, and the company is more interested in improving what has yet to be sold. I am not saying that this is the case here. I am just saying that has been my experience on other equipment.

So I was curious. If the Aristo/Crest receivers can’t be upgraded, what can they not do, that the new, upgraded ones, can?
