Has anyone heard anything more regarding the Revo RX with sound? I’m curious as to when, since Id like to buy some more receivers, but would rather get them with sound if its “soon”.
Bob
Aristocraft is going to be at the National Convention in KC.
I think there is to be a clinic on the Revo with sound then.
Funny, while shown at the York show, nothing on the Aristo forum about it, no dates, etc. (except that it is different hardware and you cannot upgrade an old Revo to the sound one)

Nice
Oh, the other piece of data is that Lewis Polk said it would be $50 more than the standard Revo receiver.

Yea, I heard that at York, too. If its a reasonably sounding polyphonic sound system, its worth it. Bonus if its programmable.
I read (somewhere?), a few weeks ago, that the added sound is basic entry level, along the lines of Dallee, possibly. For the price, I think that it would be monophonic, but may go to ‘stored’ memory to maintain chuff/diesel when whistle/horn activated (my guess only).
The people who reported from the York show who actually heard it, put it a bit above a Dallee. The technical claims posted/written vary from the reasonable to the absurd. (Aristo is new to the market, so they don’t really understand the terms like polyphonic).
It’s just plain strange that there is no more info, non of the “chosen few” have them yet.

Aristocraft was at the NMRA convention in Sacramento, CA – but the fellow manning the booth on Saturday looked like he’d rather be somewhere else, anywhere else. He said he hadn’t bothered to bring the Revolution handset from his hotel room. I asked him about the sound system, and he was very vague – “Maybe next year… maybe”. I should have asked the guy who was there on Friday, he seemed much more engaged and knowledgeable… and he remembered to bring the Revo handset – the first time I had actually seen one.
I heard the Revolution receiver with sound demonstrated at the ECLSTS train show in March. With all the background noise it was not the best environment to judge a sound board, but I was satisfied it would meet my needs during our clubs railway operations.
A receiver with sound certainly will make the installation of radio control and sound a lot easier.
As a lot of us have seen and heard at various train shows the engineering it’s done, but they are working on individual sound files.
There are 6 sounds triggered from the keys, and a total of 16 sounds may be available.
The output is 10 watts and the processor speed is 64,000 messages per second for good fidelity. Obviously a good speaker will be required. They hope to have a better speaker available upon release of the Revolution receiver with sound.
The Internet board will download sound files in about 10 to 15 minutes, but then it will only take a few seconds to download it to the Revolution receiver with sound.
Magnets for steam locomotives will synchronize the chuffs, but 4 chuffs per revolution will be the default.
The expected low price is based on adding components to an existing board, not having to make a separate unit.

This is a 2012 project and we’re working now on the way to download the sounds from the Internet. These things take time, but we’ve made good progress on this.
All the best,
Lewis Polk
Thanks for the info, Paul. Looks like I’ll buy a few more receivers now instead of waiting another year for em.

(sorry, don’t know how to embed a youtube video, is there a way?)
Shot by me at the BTS in Ontario, California this year, showing the Revolution with sound.

Perhaps I could beg the gods of the forum to add the youtube bbc code to the bbc code popup…
Thanks be to the rooster…
