Retirement

I want to publicly thank all the LSC members here who responded to Linda’s request for an email or phone call for my retirement party.

To say I was surprised is an understatement!

This group outclassed every other group of folks Linda contacted! I had emails from Richard Smith, Fred Mills, Eddie Bellas, Jerry Paladino and others.

I even had a phone call from a fellow train nut currently working for the UN in the Belgian Congo!

I have never met more than two of this group personally and yet you guys responded like my fellow cops.

I am humbled by your friendship and consideration.

Thanks for helping to make my last day at work one I’ll always remember.

Andre’

Congrats on your retirement, Andre!

I seem to have missed Linda’s message, but congrats! Retirement is great. There’s actually time to do some modeling…

Andre,
retirement is just an excuse for more time to start more new projects.

Andre’
I didn’t see Linda’s request either. However, HAPPY RETIREMENT!
JimC.

Probably a good thing he’s retiring. Seems old age is setting in rapidly… I just know you have met more than 2 from this rowdy bunch. Let’s see…my old brain recalls the following being at Marty’s in '06: Jim Carter, Norm Anderson, Jerry Barnes, Ric Golding and myself as LSC regulars. :stuck_out_tongue: Andy Clarke sticks his head in quite often too.

Darn good thing you retired. You need to spend more time in therapy…playing with your trains

Congrats also on your retirement…

Good luck in your retirement.

Here’s hoping you still can’t find enough time  Happy Retirement Andre.

Jon

Thank you all…and Warren is correct. Not sure how I got just 2? i met more than that at the first MWLSTS!!

Here’s hoping the therapy will help my memory…

Linda is taking me on a wee trip to Seattle via Amtrak. Spending a couple days there then a quick fly home. Anyone in the Seattle area up for a visit?

Andre’

I’d wave as you pass through Spokane…but I’m not usually up at 1:30 in the morning.

TOC is in the Seattle area. If you can manage free time on Friday evening that’s when he has his ops session.

Retirement! Perchance to dream … sigh. She says we can’t afford it, ever, and I’m afraid she’s correct.
Mind you, I was called into the assistant managing editor’s office the other day (shortly after my 61st birthday) and “invited” to “seriously consider” taking a buyout and early retirement (head office is trying to sweep out the old newspaper guard, so they can enter their brave new Etherworld – or, in unspoken truth, they’re trying to get by on cheap labor instead of us guys). Told him I couldn’t afford their “generous” offer, but I would “think about it” (Tac might recall “le roy s’avisera”).

But enough of that: My best wishes for your retirement, and may your honey-do lists always leave room for train time.

Note to WM: I’m frequently on my feet at 0130 or thereabouts, but I can hardly be said to be “up”. Zombie Grandpa vs. The Diaper Terror

Andr’e,

Congratulations on the retirement, everybody should do it at least once. I did in 1989 and have never had so much fun working, since. My Dad always said the biggest problem is that you never get to sneak a sick day, there is no vacation, weekends don’t mean as much and Holidays are always still Holidays. Enjoy everyday and remember only you can make yourself have a bad day. Besides if other people think you should be having a bad or that they are going to make you have a bad day and you don’t, then you also have the extra bonus of pissing them off.

Oooh, blood sports. Watch their brains boil out of their ears :D

Something tells me that Chris isn’t about to wait for retirement to piss off a few people… :stuck_out_tongue:
