Along with my decision to retire and start seeing the sights I booked a trip to the jungles of the Amazon so I wouldn’t hedge on retiring. I figured if I couldn’t get in the car and drive into work for a bit it would help me through the transition.Having been here a few days now and finally getting to an area with a satellite connection, I’ll down load pictures as I get them down loaded. I must say I didn’t know they had any tracks here.
Good for you, Dave. Fortunately I’ve already visited a jungle so I have no desire to see more…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
OK. I got some more time to kill. I should have taken this trip right after high school when I was young and able to strain for 12 hours a day clearing brush to move on the trail. Now it takes twelve days to clear brush to move along the trail. I guess in the end it will be worth it
I shall now attempt to add pics to the post. Because without pics we all know it didn’t happen.
The following are what I saw on arrival
And now a few taken over the last few days and the progress I’ve made.
See there is track in the jungle.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
I see a swing in the distance.
And finally I can rest with access to the screen room.
The above growth occurred over a 4 year stint of life coming before trains. Caring for my wife prior to her passing out weighed the trains for enjoyment. Now I have retired and plan on recapturing the use of track for my trains. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

i think i’m lost…
do you write about the Brazilian Amazonas, or about your backyard-turned-jungle?
That’s awesome Hollywood!!
Wow… real challenges there – gotta watch out for those poison arrows, man-eating plants… and the leopards hang out in those trees, so look up once in a while. And for gosh sakes, don’t lick any frogs!!!

You’re quickly making great progress, please keep it up Sir! Think big, tear it up, have fun, good luck, break a leg! And I’m looking forward to your further reports!
===>Cliffy
Cliff; we all are, but, some of us are shielding ourselves from the shock, of finding nothing but roundy-roundy loops, possibly connected to more and more loops, all leading to a track powered maze of more and more loops…
Loops on top of loops are fine for some fine folks, but after a while, the boredom of the jungle moves back, and smothers any hope of a lasting interest…in some cases…“Round-Up” is the magic liquid that is the only true hope, next to “Agent Orange”.
At first glance, some with active imaginations see images of a young looking Dave Marconi, wind mill “Beanee” on head, hand on a power-pack dial, laying trackside, watching a BL2, pulling a string of “Mr.Polk’s Dream Cars”, round, and round, until nurse Wacky-woo calls him in for nighttime cookies and hot chocolate, before bed.
….and off to bed he goes; one happy senior…and I’m happy for him, and hope my last days are that happy for me too…!!
Dave…looks like you have a great project ahead. I think we all can enjoy looking forward to hearing and seeing you moving along with this latest project.
Have fun…

I was hoping the pics would clarify the location Korm, but alas it is the backyard empire I am hacking away at.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Looks a lot like what my area behind the shed was before we cleared it all out. Thorn bushes, old telephone poles, swing set, hammock, vines climbing up the evergreen trees, couple of rotting strand reels. Loaded all the scrap metal into the pick up and got the down payment for the new layout…
Overgrown track happens with the bigger scales as well:
Hey Korm, if I lived in Paraguay, and saw that the HW was moving nearer by, you bet I’d be asking for clarification too!
And Dave, re. your Amazon in PA, speaking from the Amazon in MD, I can commiserate. This is from 2012.

I always wonder with those kinds of videos, how do the train crews even know the track can be used? If its been left unused that long, there could be serious damage to parts of the track.
I had a weed once. I watered it and watered it, but it still died.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

Dig deep enough into You-Tube and there is an even scarier video of the survey crew crashing through there on a speeder at 25-35 mph with effective zero visibility - that was BEFORE the track was cleared. The video I linked to was after some track clearing.
John, careful. Weed is still illegal in most places.
Tim, ok. But a speeder weighs considerably less then an covered wagon (EMD E or F unit).

believe it, or not - but in the south-western part of Brazil i’ve seen more than one garden, where your pics could have been taken.
and the visitor map on my site shows, that there exist people with largescale interest in that region too.
you got me laughing on that one Korm. I just know you are speaking the truth(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Nice start on your reclamation Dave. Keep at it and you’ll get it in to running shape just in time for winter! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
I’ll be watching.
