Resources

Hi all,

With the resources of the Internet at everyone’s, who participates on the Internet, fingertips I’m often amazed that info which is readily available “isn’t found”.

Is that an indication of a lack of time, lack of interest or lack of imagination when using the umpteen different search engines?
Of late I have found that between the Wikipedia and Google things pop up so readily it is scary. All it takes is minimal effort! Of course that is strictly my opinion.

I usually start off at Google…which usually leads to Wikipedia. One of the things I really like about the internet is the wealth of information available at my finger tips.

Hmmm, I have an uneducated spell checker in my Firefox browser… It doesn’t know what Wikipedia is…

Warren,

There are some specialty search engines which dig up bring up very specific things, too. Sometimes they’re faster than Google errrrrr you don’t need to wade through a lot of stuff.

But what I really like about Google is the fact that there are now so many country specific engines. Want stuff from Switzerland go to GOOGLE.ch and ask for Swiss stuff only. That keeps the hits down and shortens the search.
GOOGLE.de; --.fr; —.it; —.se … etc. etc. Doesn’t get any easier. Unless you’re plainly not interested or don’t care at all.

…or can’t read the language…:frowning:

That can be fixed.

I knew it. The fix is in.

Or the person isn't as web-savvy as you are. Often what seems obvious to a person who makes his living doing internet tech, is quite obscure to the more casual internet user.

Ray,

I’m a firm believer that anyone can learn; how quickly one learns differs from individual to individual. But lack of interest is a big handicap.

Apart from the very basic “How does one get a DOS PC to work” (in 1992) and a basic intro to Desktop Publishing (in 1993) I learned everything else by keeping my eyes and ears open. And asking questions 'til the cows came home on umpteen Newsgroups and fora.
Yes I’m also lucky, firstly because others were willing to share and secondly I can retain what I learned quite well.

As Barry has in his signature “there are no dumb questions”.

I guess that’s why my stack of dumb answers is sitting here gathering dust…BTW…Is Mike the lad, still up and about ?

Fr. Fred,

Slightly delayed reaction: is there a connection?

Sure glad it isn’t me who needs to learn Welsh!

All I got was a headache…:expressionless:

I think I got crossed eyes, and I am 25% Welsh.
