Just finished some soldering repairs on the layout. Used a jointly owned resistance soldering set. A resistance set makes quick work of any soldering you may have to do on track work or when installing lighting, etc.
The sets are expensive. Possible way to gain access is to purchase a set under joint ownership. Several of us in our club went together and purchased the set. That way none of us had more in the set than a good quality heavy duty soldering iron would have cost. We share the set and it works out well. You might want to consider a resistance set. It makes quick work of soldering and produces strong solder joints.
