Reply function question

Dear BD,

I often hit the Reply button to someone else’s post.

And while typing my reply, the form indeed indicates that I’m replying to that person.

But, maybe half the time, my posted post has no reference to that connection, and the other person’s post doesn’t have an indication of there being a reply.

To avoid this, I’m tending to use the ‘quote’ function, because that always registers that I’ve replied.

Are you or is anyone else seeing this behavior?

Cliff

i’m neither benign, nor diktator, but…

there are two types of “Reply”

to answer to a specific post, you use the “Reply” on the right side, beside the like button.
to answer to the thread in general, you scroll down (far down, nearly to australia)
there are buttons: share, bookmark, flag and - drumroll - the Reply button for the thread.

to quote Rooster: does that make sense?

it’s easy, ain’t it?

but it is not logic. computers can’t do that.

No clue here but twenty figures :sunglasses:

That’s what I’m referring to (see 1st two images). My point is that it often acts like the 2nd / main thread reply button.

on a more serious note…
yes, i know that problem.
and i’m suspecting, that we should - after hitting the right side Reply - take a nearer look at the place, where it should note to whom we respond. (above the answering box)
maybe, one can toggle something there.
but since i got that idea, i had no failed answers to try it out.

I think it also has to do with if your post will be directly below the one youre replying to, or further down the thread.

EDIT: OH! It references the sub-thread within the thread! If you reply on the first post here, it doesnt, but if you pick, say, Korm’s, it does.

To quote Rooster… Does that make sense?

I’ve tried quoting Rooster, but when quoting Rooster, “quoting Rooster” I run into trouble trying quote Rooster.

This is the first post I’ve been able to quote Rooster and not have to worry about context of quoting Roster.

  • Never heard of the, guy myself.
  • Back in the day, in the ‘hood…
  • Cliff, Insert Rooster pipe here…
  • Amtrak
  • I love history
  • it’s Bill’s fault
  • I blame Bill

To quote Rooster- “Does that make sense?” It did to me, but not after I proofread it.

Korm, there are indeed two types of reply. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Yeah, this thread went off course and ”it’s Bill’s fault!”

sure. who else could be blamed?

Hmm… OK, sub-thread.
Bob, I’m replying to your post, using the lower right button.

Your post wasn’t a direct reply to anyone else’s that I can tell. And see your name directly above what I’m typing.

Hitting the big Reply button now, on the lower left.

[edit] Yep, it says I replied to you.

But it’s the only post on this thread so far that shows who it was in response to… I guess everyone else started their post with the “main” or big reply button down on lower left?

Replying to Korm’s affirmation that Bill should be blamed…

[edit] Yep, it’s a reply to Korm…

Replying to myself, which was a direct reply to Bob…

[edit] Again, it’s working there.

Wonder why I’m usually not seeing this “having-replied-to-so-and-so” in my replies?

Déjà vu

Has this happened before?
You called me.:grinning:
