As I begin to build my outdoor railway empire I have taken on following one of the Ten Commandments of Garden Railways…
“Thou Shall Not Roll on Plastic Wheelsâ€
So before my rolling stock stable gets too full, I have ordered some replacement metal wheels off of E-bay. I believe they came from San-Val Hobby in California and they are Silver Wheels. I installed a set on a H-L-W shortie without any issues, but when I tried installing a set on an Aristo-Craft bobber caboose it seems that the axle width seems a bit too long.
Has anyone else run into this problem? Is this an Aristo-Craft issue (meaning I need to purchase Aristo-Craft metal wheels) or an issue with the San-Val metal wheels? I have enough non-Aristo-Craft rolling stock to use up the wheels I have purchased, it is just that I wanted to convert some of my Aristo-Craft rolling stock first.
Do people have a preferred Metal Wheel supplier/manufacturer? I like the look and style of Aristo-Craft rolling stock for both passenger cars and short freight as well as the H-L-W shorties. So far everything I have purchased has come with plastic wheels so this issue has become fairly important to me as I begin this journey.
