I’ve read a lot of posts here are approaches to solving the cracked gear issue, well, I am wanting to upgrade the wheels on a used GP38-2 and noticed I too have multiple issues with the wheelsets, bearings, gears, etc…
I want to use NWSL wheels, what are the best options for gear replacement? I see references to a NWSL 2521-6, and thanks to Brian Bruhn have idea on how to punch the old USA wheels off the axles to retain some of the needed components, but curious on ideas for replacement parts. While I didn’t see much more than the whole wheelsets on the charlesro site, I know there must be other options. I should mention I use only battery power and remove all track pickup related components out of the trucks. So some of these replacement parts could be made out of other more durable or better performing materials.
