For some time now , I have been using spray cans of a cplour called “Chaos Black” .
So far , there has not been an attack of body wrinkles on a range of models----LGB , Bachmann , PIKO ,
and scratch builts from Evergreen plastic .
The finish is very near matt and as applied suits a slightly war weary loco . It is not black , but very dark grey .
Available from Games Workshops over here , at exorbitant prices . But , hey , what’s 8 quid against a 600 quid model ?
It might be an idea to compare painting techniques while I am here .
Use of car spray seems to frighten people , but applied in “drifting” coats with time to dry properly between coats
gives a good finish and no wrinkles . By drifting , I mean hold the can at least 15 inches from the model so that the paint appears
as a misty colour for the first two or three coats .
Beware of the Plastic car sprays , they are not meant for model plastic , but can be used as above .
For touching in , spray a thimble full in the lid and use a brush . You will find it a better match than the Touch In
sticks sold alongside the spray cans .
Anyone got a different way of applying car sprays ?
Answers on a three dollar note , please .
