Renaissance Festivals

Is anyone here into renaissance festivals? We seem to spend more time at them each year. Especially now that our kids are older. I shoot them (with a camera) a lot and have become one of those photographers that everyone looks for now to get a picture… Lots of people even approach me and know my name having never met me before. Kinda nice…

If you want to see some of the shots I take check out the link below.

A bunch of rough characters, that lot.

BTW, it was fun watching those three kids grow up.

Thanks Steve. The kids love the faire more than we do. Well, maybe not but they do like it a lot!

Jon,
Some wonderful shots you have there on a quick scan. I started my interest in Medieval Re-creation at the Sterling Rennaisance Festival near Syracuse NY. Wanting to be able to put ona different persona more often than one weekend a year I found the local branch of the Society for Creative anachronisms or SCA and started having almsot the same fun locally. Of course the BIGGEST event the SCA holds annually is Pennsic War held near Slippery Rock PA north of Pittsburgh for 2 weeks the end of July beginning of August each year and it draws close to 12,000 re-enactors from all over the world. Someone I know who uses Pbase as well has documented several tyears worth of SCA events in that area. http://www.pbase.com/darter02/sca

Some good stuff. Our girls are getting old enough now to be able to handle all the walking that the Renn Fest requires so we may return soon.

Ron has some excellent pictures in his galleries. Thanks for the link. I’ve passed it on to some others as well.

Jon,
As I’m frantically trying to get ready for this years Pennsic I’ve heard that Ron (Darter) has not shot much lately with the new family and all but maybe this year he’ll get some really good shots again? Time will tell. I’ve been commisioned to build two breakdown camp beds for folks. One I know and anotehr person unknown to me so far but she sent me money so I suppose I ought to build her something? LOL! Seriously though I’m happy that I can provide a service and get paid for it.

Chas

Hopefully Ron will be able to get back out there and do some shooting. He has some great work in his galleries. As for you, don’t forget to attach some kind of name plate to those beds so other folks can keep you working!

Another festival done for the season and more pictures posted…

My ex adored ren-faires. I find some of the stuff interesting, but all the badly done faux British accents get wearing after an hour or two.

But then, where else (besides an amusement park) can you pi$$ away a couple hundred dollars in an afternoon with nothing really left to show for it?

One of these kind of festivals takes place only 20miles away from where I live ! I like to go there as I am interested in old crafts and artistry and I am a great admirer of the wonderful medieval/renaissance music made with instruments nearly forgotten today ! The Location is an old Castle which is used as a school now but than it is the castle of the honorable Lord of Dornum and his Folks! Nice scenery , nice happening ! I have to admit that i like history and the medieval / renaissace times best !

cheers Joe
