Removing LGB decals

I need to remove the roadname decals from two old-time LGB passenger cars to put my own roadname on them. What do I use?

Try the gentlest solvent you can first. I’d recommend alcohol.

Some people swear by brake fluid.

In any case, be SURE to test whatever you are using on the inside of the car, where any damage will not be noticable.

Regards, Greg

Depending on what road name you have, a couple of the LGB old timers where just a piece of tape.
For instance, the Sandy River was pasted over a Pennsy decal.
I believe the D&S was pasted over a DRG&W.

For most of the Old Time LGB Passenger Cars that don’t have the labels, the letters on the top side of the car were applied over a black painted strip that runs the length of the top edge of the car. This black painted strip will come off first before the lettering will. (found out the hard way.)

I found a product called “Dad’s Drip Strip” that removes paint and lettering very fast. (WARNING: It does affect some of the plastics used in model trains.) I use a sparing amount on a clean white cloth and lightly rub the lettering to be removed. Also, I immediately wash the area that I have used it on. It comes in a blue & yellow can. I found it at Wally World.
