We haven’t received any snow yet but lots of rain so I have removed the turntable, 2 bay engine house and end of track bumpers so they don’t get beat up when things ice up over the Winter.
This Spring I powered 4 LGB switches in my train yard and I’m thinking about pulling the electric motors for the Winter. The manual ones stay out. These electric ones are supposed to be weather proof but they would be expensive to replace if damaged by snow and ice.
Am I being over cautious here?
Todd,
Ice can be a bear to protect against. If you are concerned about the switch motors, just toss an old piece of plywood or some similar sheet material over the whole of the switch/machine therefore keeping water out of the places that freezing water would expand and damage the switches.
If you wish to enjoy your trains for a while, remove the cover and replace when done.
