While on the “Six Days in the Mountains” trip I met a guy who had a railroad atlas for Western Canada. It indicates the reporting points and the locations of the defect detectors and and and. I ordered one - it’s an English product - and it arrived yesterday. WOW!!! with that and the Canadian Trackside Guide I should be all set.
It also shows all the abandoned railway lines, the former barge services on the lakes and a lot of other “used to be” stuff.
