I am having a dickens of a time finding sources for diecast trucks (not pickups), and buses in 1:24th,also horse drawn wagons… 1:32 seems way to small, while 1:18 too large. I can find some British Prototypes, but virtually nothing thats US - I’d particularly like to find a “White” such as the Natl Parks used, I believe they were 1936’s… anything from the early 1900,s to the 40’s. Any suggestions…Also campers, although I realize their Post WWII… Thanks all
At http://www.collectablediecast.com you can sort/search by 1:1 mfg; model manufacturer and scale. Good service, reasonable prices.
Looks like a good place to start- Thanks
Great source for cars, pick-ups, and fire engines- nothing in the way of trucks or waqons
Are 2 others that I have found some things on.
Occasionally Bettysattic.com has some die cast. This past summer I bought a 1:24 camper on a 1966 Chevy truck from them, but I don’t see it listed anymore.
Phil,
Pickings are very slim, there is this White tractor with auto transport trailer and there are a few other White trucks offered. I’ll see if I can find them.
Michael
Phil,
And another White truck.
Michael
Thanks, indeed, pickings are continually slim. The Bud truck has possibilities. The Car carrier is neat, however mentally I can’t seem to get by the fact that with shipping it would be more than my first 4 real cars combined. Again Thanks!
Phil,
I’m not familiar with the National Parks equipment, any pictures or links?
What are your needs specifically a tractor or a bobtail like the Bud truck? I might be able to help.
Yeah the auto transport rigs are nice but pricey. I have acquired several for my needs to supplement and or provide loads for my SP Overnight train which ran from San Francisco to Los Angeles daily. I’m using the transport trailers only, loaded on flat’s. Problem is the flats are very heavy loaded with trailers and cars, center of gravity is accordingly higher than desirable. That being said it worked in full scale operation, so I should be able to model it.
Michael
I’m not looking for anything specific, more some different things than on everyone else’s layout, in the time frame up to the the late 30’s, I’m trying to add some visual interest to the layout. The white bus caught my eye- http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/top-1930s-White-Glacier-National-Park-Red-Bus.htm
The different areaas of the layout sort of has dates/themes: amusement park/circus, civil war era, 1900 -to late 30’s, 1950-early 60’s-Drive in… I have seen some offering in model kits, however my painting skills, are limited
The Hubley metal models are on ebay all the time and many fit that time frame.
Danbury Mint has a 38 Chevy cab over of various offering’s, nice trucks.
There are lots of pick-up and medium duty truck offerings from Danbury and Franklin Mint in 1/25 scale. of the 30’s on up…
Busses are tough. Aristo had something, I have one somewhere. I’ll have to find it to refresh my memory.
Hubley stuff is nice as Jerry suggested, but I think they are a little larger than desired, more like 1:20 scale.
I’ve found for the most part you have to rework what’s available to get something different.
Michael
Hubley did make a metal school bus. To my eye, it is about 1/24 (well it looks good with all my other 1/24 vehicles, anyway). It does not have a finished interior, but it comes apart easily and you could add seats (I did). They show up on eBay all the time. I bought one for cheap in less than perfect condition and repainted it (so much for “collector value!”).
BTW- Hubley also made a grader, again in about 1/24 which is also pretty useful. It has a very mid-century look to it.
Hope this helps.

I’ll have to check the dudgeon - I know there is a case of new Hubley models that never sold-(don’t recall seeing a school bus though) - seems I tripped over that box last weekend…
Thanks guys
The Hubley bus looks interesting… eBay has many for sale, I bought one…
The Aristo bus is a rail car/bus… Looks like an older 30’s something bus converted to rail use. I found some info online that suggested it was modeled after a White railbus made for a railroad in New Jersey.
The models of brass construction and could likely be stripped of the trucks/rail wheels and refitted with street tires.
Michael
dont golden wheels do a 1940 ford pick up, as part of their range around 1 24
Aristo rail bus…
Dave,
Yes they do; tow truck, stake side and box vans. I have several of them, these are nice models IMO, though not as detailed as the various Mint offerings.
Michael
yes thought so, i bought a couple thinking they were 1 18 and when they arrived they were obviously
too small but too big for 1 32,
they are good value though,
