Have ya ever noticed, that non model railroad folks (lets call them the “straights”) seem to have an eclectic lifestyle, their interests are many and varied, but seem to lack focus?
Then there’s us folks, the minature (I really don’t like to call it a model) railraoder. Ahhh yes the MR, is definately a critter of another breed. The MR is genrally a well educated, well spoken individual (well theoretically anyways) typically well rounded with many differnt skills. We always seem to be disciplined (at least in one respect) with a singular vision and drive to see it through, that of getting the flanged wheel on the steel rail (or brass, aluminum, or nickel silver asthe case may be).
Everyone loves a train, at least a small one that takes them back to their dear childhood. Seems that everyone had one at least around the tree, or their father or brother, or next door neighbor had one all generating pleasant memories. That being said, what brought us all to this Glorious Large Scale Bliss that we now enjoy?
It seems to be a hobby for everyone! There are soooo many sub disciplines that we roll together under a common banner; carpenter, machinist, gardener, electrician, landscaper, mason, modelmaker, and the list goes on.
The point? There isn’t one, just an observation of what a beautiful thing our hobby is. Ain’t life grand?
